Loch Morlich, Near Aviemore

Lots of walking and cycling in beautiful countryside.

I nearly lost my dog when she decided to swim out into the freezing loch after the ducks!

Must go to Inshraich Nursery tearoom called The Potting Shed....delicious cakes and, if you sit in the back, the birds are your entertainment.

Yes we camped at the Loch Morlich site then explored the many cycle trails nearby. Tons of routes. Unbeatable scenery. Highly recommended.

Sounds great. Thinking of taking a trip in March before the midges get going.

Would you recommend any particular site?

I actually prefer the Rorhiemurcus site where you camp in among the pine trees. But the Loch Morlich site is good too, particularly if you want direct access to the loch and beach. Both have cycle trails directly from the sites.

They'll be midge free until May so you could afford to wait until it gets a bit warmer!

Like Ewan says, Loch Morlich is handy for the loch and beach but we prefer Rothiemurchus too and it's a nice walk from there into Aviemore. Best take a torch if walking in at night.

Thanks for the advice folks. Having been eaten last year in July, I'm thinking Easter will spare me the indignity of walking around with a net on my head.
