Insurers - who are you with?

The Cali is clearly a marmite vehicle as some insurers love it, some hate it. Within the Cali community, there will be people that have it as a daily drive and those who use it strictly as a motor home with all shades in between.

Thus it might save other forum users money if we were to indicate who we insured with so that they can at least include these ones in the range of quotes they seek. If time is a factor, they might just go to insurers that are known to offer sensible deals on Calis

I am with Admiral as it is a daily driver with commuting and occasional business use. Fully comp euro cover included for about 90 days (watch out with Direct Line as it is only about 3). Over the phone I am assured that all factory fitted gear and vw options are covered on the policy too. Your own stuff (bedding, chargers, plates) only has a £500 limit though. no claims bonus is used and can be protected.

As with all insurers, you only truly know when the worst happens though :headbang

I'm with comfort 8,000 miles a year no business use £235 fcomp

camping and caravan club 7,000 miles a year no business use £230 fcomp .2.5l engine 174bhp valued at 34,000

Also with Comfort on unlimited mileage £257 fully comp and no business.

Hi all

Camping and caravanning club, 10k miles pa, SDP + commuting, £580ish - it's parked on the street in sunny Manchester :)

I went with ccc because the insurance covered the entire vehicle (not just the outside as is the case with direct line and some other firms no doubt)

I'm with Saga, no commuting or business use and 12000 miles a year includes European Union plus Andorra, Iceland etc. £335-00

C&CC Groupama 15k miles daily use SDL & commuting no business cover with european cover £372. They recognise no claim bonus.

we used zurich and they only have 5 days (if i remember correctly) of european cover and after that its extra charge (and it was well over £400 with 7 years no claims)

so we are looking for a company that offers at least 50 days, pref 90, european cover as standard. any ideas please?

Comfort with unlimited miles and automatic European travel for 90 days at a time. £259 per year,

Just gone with CC&C 365 days a year European cover on our Beach for 600 pounds and you get a free CC&C sticker!

Just renewed with Comfort / 10k / 1 claim / no business use - £309. Age 35

Scenic (axa motor caravan scheme) £276 inc tax, credit ncd I was given 5 years in first year, 8K miles, SDP and commuting, 4 drivers, inc motorhom fixtures and fittings, europe unlimited beyond europe 186days - whatever that means. haven't made a claim - maybe rash to say that! seems a fair price looking at the other quotes.
Cheers

Ray

I'm with Coast. About £230 per annum.

As a direct result of this thread (and since my insurance was up for renewal) I changed this morning from Caravan Club, quote £580 to Comfort (Aviva) who quoted £210, including £1000 of sat nav audio system cover. Amazing - and thanks to info submitted by others. Lindsay Porter

TWO WEEKS LATER! Comfort's Policy turned out to be badly worded and ambiguous and when I queried it, the replies were vague and the person on the phone was downright impolite. So, went back to Caravan Club, prepared to pay extra for a quality service. They quoted again from scratch (v. well informed young lady on phone) and came up with £235 (£350 excess, 2yrs NCB upgraded to 4 years as a bonus. (No, I don't get it, either...) So, cancelled (Dis)Comfort (you pay per day + £25 fee but worth it since they seemed so ill-informed I wondered what would happen if a claim was needed) and went back to Caravan Club/Devitts. What a palaver!

And it will be interesting to see if next year's renewal climbs again.

Whilst I find these posts very useful they can also be demoralising if you are paying more than other people. No one seems to quote the engine size and the value insured for all of which surely affects the premium. How many of these are driving the 2.5TD?

Ours is a 180PS 4Motion, 2011 with suggested value of £42,000. We live in a rural area and the vehicle is kept in a garage and has a tracker. But why is it demoralising to see other people's lower rates? If this helps you to get a better quote next time, good on yer. If you can't, perhaps because of specific higher risk factors, then you're no worse off than you were before! Just enjoy your Cali! Lindsay Porter

I don't mind seeing the quotes and I think mine is the highest figure so far! :)

Well you are parked on street in Manchester so I would think it is a higher risk area than a lot of other folk.
Come renewal you will be able to refer to this thread & get more quotes & may be able to get that cost down.

Hi Lindsay and thanks for your feedback. I dont see how the information on here is going to help get lower quotes unless of course you change companies and even then I dont think they will take any notice of what you tell them. Mine is garaged but no tracker and just renewed at £350 with Scenic. Full no claims SD and P only max 7000 miles per year Sole driver etc etc You dont say who you are insured with and what you are paying which may help.

I think it has been mentioned above but please remember many of the big insurance companies will insure the California but you wont be covered for the camping side of things, kitchen, awnings and stuff like that. You will need to insure with a specialist company eg. Comfort, Caravan Club etc ...

I found this out when getting my quotes from the likes of Direct Line, Morethan etc ..

2.5 tdi 174 ps, insured value £32K, parked on street. With Safeguard, full no claims (not protected), unlimited mileage (incl commuting but not business), AA UK and European breakdown and recovery cover. Premium £330.00.
