Insurers - who are you with?

I find it very odd that Comfort come up on the price comparison sites as the lowest, but over the phone they tell me this must be a glitch and they don’t do business use at all...seems they don’t know their **** from their elbow.

VW recommend Aplan, but although they were really helpful my lack of NCD meant that they couldn’t help me.

Called LV who were helpful and gave a better quote, plus they’ve told me to try their website as that gives 10% discount. I’ll give that a go next.

NFU told me they don’t do business use, I queried this and the underwriter said they won’t quote and that’s final!

The lady I spoke to at Admiral told me they only do cars, so speak to Gladiator instead?!?

Not bothered with the Caravan Club after reading earlier posts.

Just looked at Aplan on the web … seem to be brokers, not an insurance company per se. Did VW suggest them specifically for the Cali or just the base vehicle?

Not sure, but I suspect the VW salesman didn’t realise Aplan wouldn’t be able to help insulting the Cali as they themselves mainly deal with commercial vehicles.

So a little earlier today got on the phone to Safeguard -
w.e.f. 13/06, insure 2008 Cali SE, 174/Tiptronic, purchase price £30995, no mods. single driver age 71, 9yrs+ ncb, no other vehicle, clean driving record, Cali parked on private drive £200 excess, £100 on windows. Fully comp sdl, all year overseas (EU etc. cover, 15K mls pa incl. 2.5k est. EU etc driving. Includes AA breakdown cover.

First quote offered, with CaliClub 17.5% discount, £421.61. Muffled surprised noise from me … not happy? Well no. Had other quotes, not yet but will. Got some idea of the likely cost from other CaliClub members, expecting sthg like £350. Offered to look further for me and came back with £372.63.

When asked to email to me the Ts & Cs apologised profusely that they had an email issue they were working on, but promised to take photocopy of the Ts & Cs and post them first class (far faster than the usual centralised procedure for this)

Seems a very reasonable price for a daily driver …?

Just renewed with Comfort. £310 with European breakdown cover and 5% VIP discount. Limited to 6,000 miles a year and parked on the drive. Quite pleased with that and very straightforward too. You do need to remind them to take the discount off though.
