Something that seems to come every year on the forum posts about insurance. Forum member have said insurers are not sure if the habitation part of their van is covered. Surely it must be – if you are insuring a VW California Ocean and it is written off the insurance company can not say even though you insured an Ocean we do not include the cooker the sink, the fridge etc so we will take that % off the claim. I can understand this could be the case if you are insuring a conversion but if you are insuring an off the peg model then your whole camper must be covered. I also understand that most campervans content insurance will need to be higher than the maximum cover some insurers offer.

Really depends if the Insurance Company is a Specialist Insurer. Some aren’t and it pays to check carefully, and, personally, I would not take a Call Centre workers word for it and I would want it in writing.

I put a similar post on earlier today under 'Insurance price?' post 8. (Sorry, I don't know how to link the posts). It really is worth getting the insurance company to confirm they cover the habitation area. Most call takers do not understand what a VW California is. In my experience, most do not know the difference between a factory built camper and a conversion.

And that is my point I was trying to make the Cali is "factory built" the cooker is part of the build the same as the gearbox so if a company is insuring a Cali they must be covering the cooker.

Personally, I am covered with a specialist insurer as the prices and cover suits/ meets my needs.

Compared with the cost of treatment/ongoing care of a person badly injured in a accident the cost of repair to a car is trivial.
If it states on your certificate of insurance that the vehicle insured is a VW California Ocean any quibbling would be futile both in law and and when subjected to ombudsman ruling, probably!.

And that is the problem - your last word " probably ". All depends on the small print.
