Comfort insurance

Thank you Andy,
I rang the Camping and Caravaning club and despite not being a member received a really competetive quotation, about £100 less than Comfort including protected no claims.
So as an alternative insurer it might be a good option. Telephone 01277243000.
On another note I am very unhappy with Saga. I have still not received a quote from them but did speak to someone who questioned the wisdom of leaving a £28k van on the street and do I do this with vehicles of a similar value regularly!
I explained that living in Clifton Village in Bristol does not offer too many options on finding a garage and that there are many extremely valuable cars left overnight on the street.
However, 3 days on they don't seem to want my business?

CCC was more for us than comfort, but parking arrangements within postcodes etc etc etc ...swings and round-a-bouts

just a word of warning on comfort they (or mine at least) is a net rated policy which means it does not use no claims bonus nor therefore can you protect it... so if you had a claim you would not be able to protect, in addition any NCB you held prior to comfort would expire in 2 years... so if you moved away you would be back to square one with NCB... pretty annoying if you spend your lifetime building it :)

I think they work it like a classic car insurance and expect most people to have another daily driver insured and that's why they offer limited mileage and are classed as a motorhome specialist being an arm of Aviva .

We have just gone with comfort for the year. £297 for the year, brand new vehicle, 42 yr old parked on he drive at home in Bristol.

I called round about 5 places for comparison quotes and comfort were the cheapest for a comparable policy and cover.

yes but not everyone has a second car insured so thought i would mention it... nearly caught me out 3 months before my previous 10+ years NDB would have expired & i would have had to start again

So what would your position be if you were a named driver on another vehicle policy? Would that protect your NCB if you were not the policy holder? That's the position my wife is currently in. Policy holder with Comfort for the Cali and named driver on my car.

i don't know for fact but i think you have to be policy holder to count for NCB therefore any NCB your wife had previously is only valid for 2 years

Comfort have just refused to cover my Cali beach that I pick up tomorrow. Having real difficultly trying to insure it! Beaches seem to fall into a blank category, not quite a camper, not an mpv.
any ideas?

This whole comfort ncd thing is alarming me. I'm in my second year with comfort following a year with safeguard who i don't think operated a ncd either. Does this mean after 3 years come renewal time i will have lost all my no claims?
As the policy holder on my work van does that mean i could use the no claims on that if i leave comfort?
Confused!

Comfort told me that they cover the SE but not the Beach!

I believe NCB is valid for two years without using it.
I would think you could use your NCB on a work vehicle, whether you are still with comfort is irrelevant as they don't use them. Ask your insurer.

Had Comfort Insurance for 3 years now, very competitive, and like other's have mentioned, also covers European travel :thumb . Fortunately have not had to use them in anger, and long may that continue :D

They also continue to offer competitive renewals, unlike my other Direct Line car and house policies which they try to increase massively each renewal! :headbang

Owing to the fact that Comfort don't have a NCD policy, which I wanted to maintain, I'm now with Scenic. A similar premium, business miles included and I keep my NCD. There's another thread on this if anyone's interested.

I have started to look at insurance for the Cali and have spoken to Comfort who stated that the van could not be left for more than 36 hours. :sad Am I right in thinking this does not apply when the van is at home?

I will ask them anyway

I'm memory serves I asked this when taking mine out. This does not apply when parked at home.

There is an entire thread on this subject:

In the UK it does not apply.....only in Europe........

What a complicated business. Thanks for the pointers. I have until the end of March to get it sorted out.

Think as long as you run a second car in order to keep your NCD then they are pretty good......

I'm new to campervans and to Calis. I'm picking up a 2008 130 cali in 2 weeks. Comfort quote is sub 300 with my history and without knowing the make. Sounds good but does anyone have experience of claiming? Reasonable premium is one thing but if they make it difficult to claim, it might be a false economy :help

All insurance companies have horror stories ,but comfort is a specialist motorhome insurance company and owned by Aviva ...I wouldn't worry to much .....just stay away from Adrian flux if you can .....

Thanks choplee. Excuse my ignorance but who / what is Adrian flux??
