Just picked up my ocean yesterday, love some help as to why the the main 12v battery drops so fast when camping, been told not to use front doors ? Deffo a big learning curve, can not belive you don't get a hand book for main features, think I was using the air heater instead of diesel heater as that was showing error message (now fixed that) had a proper play with adaptive cruise gotta say im a big fan

Switch of the Automatic Unlocking function in the Infotainment System Menu.
Presence of the key in the vehicle will stop the vehicle electronics shutting down when camping.

How much did the battery drop by? When you say main 12v battery, do you mean the starter battery? The main battery monitor is unlikely to be using a ‘shunt’ to measure capacity so the figure in volts you are seeing isn’t a great guide.
Did you have it in camping mode?
How long were you camping for?
If it is the drop on the auxiliary battery;
Did you have the fridge on? I have used 12v compressor fridges a fair bit and the VW one seems to consume about 1 amp per hour, I think the auxiliary battery capacity is 80amps. So that’s likely to be your biggest energy consumer.
If I’m ’off grid’ I bring a power bank and plug that into the electric hook up socket on the side of the van, which gives me an extra 210 amp hour capacity. It also powers the 230v sockets without using the built in inverter (which only supports 300watts).
I have been impressed by how quickly the onboard batteries recharge when you press the fast charge button on the dash once driving.

I haven’t tried this yet, are you saying when camping turn off the auto door unlocking feature and it has a noticeable impact on the starter battery voltage drop?

I believe so. As long as the key is in range of the vehicle then it is in communication with the vehicle computer system which is expecting you to start and drive away. Switch it Off and just use the button to Open the doors .

I’m going to have a think about whether I can do a test to see what the actual impact on the main battery is, it would be interesting to monitor the power draw overtime when camping.
I was aware of people making the comment about the hybrid version.
I wonder if you kept your keys in a RFID shielded bag whether that would have any impact.

It does.
