oh wise ones,

im looking to upgrade my v poor radiogram with a kenwood satnavy daby thing.

question is, do you need to fit a new aeriel or is the fm/dab fitted as standard? my van is sept 2010. ive seen a picture recently of someone whos fitted a sharkfin type one to the front roof canopy and it looked ok. dont fancy a stick on mounted one.

thanks for the advice in advance.

DAB aerial won't be on the vehicle unless it originally came with DAB from the factory. The Kenwood comes with an internal windscreen mounted DAB aerial. For those vehicles that had DAB originally from the factory and have switched to Kenwood, Kenwood are releasing a connector so that you can use the original DAB aerials in the wing mirrors on the van rather than the additional windscreen mounted one that comes with the Kenwood.

cheers

interesting, i was told by the dealer in plymouth that the FM/DAB areaielei was fitted as standard, i asked the that specific question, he was clearly talking gollocks!.

in your opinion, is the windscreen stick on any good or would it be better to go with a roof mounted?. do vw only fit the widscreen one if you get the kenwood fitted at vw or would they fit a rooftop?.

(dont forget my bike rack price!)

The Kenwood aerial is pretty good, but obviously reception is determined by your area etc...We would only fit a windscreen aerial as that is what comes with the unit. If you wanted a roof mounted one we would get a specialist in to fit for you for example rather than us do it.

cheers

Whether or newer model vehicles will have a DAB aerial fitted I don't know. I know of someone who swapped a DAB aerial into a non-DAB California without issue, but wing mirrors etc...have to come apart and the casings can crack on removal. New ones need painting as well.

cheers

With a van recently ordered I can say that the DAB is still an option and not included with new vans (£150). Worth it for me as I listen to DAB a a fair bit and the Kenwood adaptor to use the facility built in is great news as an upgrade path and keeping things neat.
