We had a 2012 T5.1 California until last year when it failed its MOT for significant corrosion along the bottom of the van from the rear wheel arch to the back of the passenger door. The rest of the van was spotless, no rust anywhere. Ours and the garages assumption of the cause was the long term water ingress caused by the leaking side window. We tried numerous things over the years try and stop the water ingress but obviously to no avail. In May last year we purchased a new T6.1 Ocean in the hope that this would have been resolved in the newer vans. However the window above the kitchen leaked from new. The dealership had the van back 4 times totalling about 2 months trying to fix it along with a number of other issues that eventually meant we rejected the van earlier this year. Then yesterday I went the to look at a new pre-reg van that the dealership were offering as a replacement and despite being assured it had been leak checked I put my hand on top of the waste water tank and found the usual patch of water.
The California just fits our lifestyle but we don’t want to be in the same position we were with our t5.1 in the future and feel that a van that leaks from the factory isn’t fit for purpose.
Does a California without a leaking side window exist? Have we just been unlucky with our first California as there doesn’t seem to be many/any posts about rusty Californias?
