LV £202 quote - sanity check

My 2016 Beach has always been cheap to insure, but renewal almost up, and just had a quote from LV for £202 (which _includes_ protected NCD + legal cover) - which is a lot cheaper than the existing CAMC policy (which was pretty good in the first place!).
Anyone any experience of LV? Any gotchas I should watch out for on their cover....?!
I usually read the whole policy just for the sake of it anyway, but this seems good. I've a feeling I may find a "excludes campers" or "doesn't include roof" clause in there somewhere!

We have just put our new 6.1 insurance with LV and it was also in the low 200s. I was amazed and they also confirmed all cover and deductibles were for a campervan with normal campervan content cover etc.

I’ve used LV to insure the 6.1 Ocean. Business miles as well as protected NCD, guaranteed loan car, legal. £268. Usually go between LV, Churchill, Admiral, Halifax. Must be the postcode.

The fact that you have asked the question means you should carefully read the Policy Details. I'm sure you are covered for Car related accidents etc: but Camping? Damage to roof, awning other camping equipment?

Thank you good point, yes I did specifically ask those questions and they confirmed that those items are covered since it is a campervan policy.

Get it in writing. I went through this in detail last year (Ocean). They couldn’t confirm that everything was covered in terms of internal fixtures and fittings (i.e. kitchen etc) despite being a factory built Cali. The letter they sent me confirmed this. Went with Comfort instead.

I'm with LV, CAMC couldnt beat it and CAMC only cover SDP not commuting and as the van is my daily drive no good for me.

you would like to think when you put your van reg no LV will have on their data base and know what a vw california is just like if it was a Aston martin will be on their data sheets and quote for the risks involved?

When we had our Beach and added a slidepod unit (cooking facilities and gas) we paid a small premium of £25 to LV to have the Beach classed as a 'Volkswagen campervan' which then included habitation cover.
If I remember correctly premium was around £250.
Have used LV for years and made two claims in that period, in both cases LV were excellent.

Exactly - it should come up as a 'VW California Coast' or whatever. As long as you do not change the factory/dealer fitted options (as at time of delivery), it should all be covered.

The question to ask is not "Is everything covered in the event of a vehicle accident?" but "Is everything covered in the event of a Camping accident?".
You're cooking and there is a kitchen fire that destroys the vehicle, Am I covered by this policy?

All I can say is check with them. I had a Land Rover Defender, built for off-road use, a cheaper policy in the small print specifically excluded such use. The Insurance companies wish to minimise their risk exposure to quote a cheap rate and get your business. For the vast number of vehicles this may be acceptable but for specialist vehicles you have to be careful that the cover is appropriate to your intended use.
Eg: The Comfort Insurance 48hr rule. It minimises their risk but does it suit you?

If you park your vehicle for 48hrs or more and are not present with the vehicle you have to phone to get permission and depending on where you are parking an additional premium may be required.
eg: You drive to the airport and fly away for a 4 day city break. You have to phone Comfort to get permission to park up for 4 days, which may or may not require an additional premium payed by card over the phone.

Exactly. I had 2 cars insured with LV at the time and used them for years, so it made sense to call them about the Ocean. I smelt a rat when asking a couple of specific questions about the habitation equipment etc. Ended up with the head underwriter who confirmed their position in writing. Didn‘t go with them as a result.
