We’ve been using the 2 x marvel mat routine (split in half and doubled up when we move the bench forward) for a few years now. Like this:

I like this a lot, but it takes too long doubling up the mat (10 seconds :D ). So, we wondered if anyone has been brave enough to cut out channels for the rear part and let the bench roll over the carpet?

We’ve tested it (sort of) as in this mock-up:

There’s a roller in the middle of the bench but when you roll forward, the bench still moves over the carpet. So, I guess I know that it works, but I wouldn’t like to be a thousand miles from home, have a problem and then you all tell me that this was an accident waiting to happen! :D

Does anyone organise their marvel mats in this way? I can’t be the first surely? By the way, I’ve got the lino / fake wood option underneath.

I always put one mat on top of the other when moving the bench forward. I’m pretty sure you are not going to break anything with the carpets cut around the floor rails. They are not very thick and other carpets are designed like that.

However, my mats (same colour as your ones) started to create a lot of black dust underneath and I have now got rid of them.

The Brandrup carpet set is thicker and the seat has no problem rolling over the carpet.

Mrs Acer points out that our current mats are still quite new. But, when we change them, we’ll cut them as described. Thanks both.

Ok, I’ve done something similar with cutouts for the rails. It’s a thick carpet but the seat slides perfectly, as does the drawer. No need to stick the carpet down either. I’m happy with the results.

I darent do it. I know I'll spill something or sand and dirt will get into the rails. Easier to move the mat than clean the rails out. Ad they fit into the washing machine Easier as 2 parts.

I'm liking the little storage unit on the step.
Would you have any details, please? TIA
My soapbox!
