Mid life crisis Cali Swamper!

Bracket would be ideal to avoid unecessary vehicle height. Mind PMing me the total cost? We can then do a video on it as I can imagine a number of folks jump on the swamper setup and dont consider this.

Send him an email. I have no idea mate. Not expensive I’m sure.

You might want to consider updated rear springs to deal with the sagging rear end. Won’t change ride height other than matching the front. Why VW doesn’t address this is beyond me.

I’d go bronze, I’m thinking of Bronze Delta’s for my 680 4Motion, Certainly look better than black !

Like to see a picture of that when it’s done!

5 year ceramic is well worth it.
Washed it in the sun today, and kept it wet, with the sprinkler on the hose.
Then when all dirt removed, used 8 microfibre cloths to dry off fast.
There is still a waxy residue from the ceramic that dries to a mirror finish.
Just in time for swamper time, next week to get it balls deep in the mud :)

Should have had bronze wheels ? ;)

Getting some decent solar, even through filthy dirty panels. Got 3 panels, on the roof, 360w

Solar irradiance is climbing. Can’t wait for those 1000/m2 summer days!

Hi All. Been watching this thread a while now and I’m thinking of going down the swamper-lite route. Like the idea of no curbed rims, campsite traction and beefy good looks while retailing some on-road manners.

I’m down to either the Black Rhino Warlords or the Oz Rally Raid coupled with either Falken Wildpeak or BFG Trail Terrain 235/65/17’s. And if there’s room, lowering 30mm to get back under the 2m height (more sports swamper then!)

I’m leaning towards the Rally Raids due to the TÜV rating and cleaner look.

Anyone gone down either route in the end? Any pictures? Any similar options?

Re tyres, I love the look of the BFG All Terrain but I just don’t think I’d be able to live with the trade offs on road, unless someone can convince me otherwise! Do the Wildpeak’s or Trail Terrian look aggressive enough?

Now firmly entering the analysis paralysis period!

If you want to lower the van to enter garages and/or barriers at car parks I believe the only solution is air suspension with any of these tires. Also, note that for the BFG AT's you will need to drop down to 225/65R17 due to the tread and sidewall config, whereas with Falkens you can go with 235's. I have no idea on the Trail Terrain, but I highly suggest the Falkens. I've been running them for months now and done 20K Km's. Still super quiet and aggressive enough to conquer everything I've thrown at them. And I go offroad frequently. I ran BFG's for a long time prior and the noise did my head in finally.

We mocked up how each would look on our van, with some of the tyres so we could choose (aesthetically).

At the start of the journey, I was set of BFG tyres; but more and more research steered me away.
1. Noise.
2. Extreme noise increase with age.
3. Big MPG drop
4. Price.

Countering all of those, Falken Wildpeaks had normal road tyre noise, decent price, still a 'mean' look, and just generally a good middle ground. I still battled with the whole 'yeah, but no white lettering', which would have been nice to offset the black; but would have been paying an additional £300-£400 + all the downsides solely for that white lettering.

For me, the wildpeaks look the most aggressive, second to the BFGs.

RE lowering - as it's the 65s, you'll struggle with lowering I suspect; it's already quite tight and I suspect on ours, loading the rear too much will cause rubbing. Suspicion, not fact.

I concur.
BFG are very noisy.
Falkens I’ve heard are very good.
I’m currently running Michelin Agilis Cross climate.
235/60 r17 load rating 117.
Which, when running down the M’way at 85 fully loaded, the Cali felt even more planted, an absolute delight to drive ! (Now I’ve found the correct foam location on drivers seat)

Any issues with rubbing on the sliding door? Or with TPMS (if you have this?).
