Mid life crisis Cali Swamper!

Do we know for sure that Ford/VW are using wet belt engines in the collab? I can’t find any definitive confirmation that they are.
That’s a good question. I haven’t looked in depth at this as I have no plans to (ever) buy a Ford, but it is mainly the engines labelled EcoBlue that are wet belt. There may be others though.
I plan to be running a T6 or upgrade to a T6.1 for as long as I possibly can!

Me too! I do have an itch to do a self build one day and the new Transporter (I actually prefer the look of the Transit) looks like a potentially great base vehicle, similar footprint to the T6 but with some useful extra space inside. I wouldn’t touch one if they are wet belt though.

A longish Terranger video (all in German) but my main take out is the new Ford looks like it will make a good base vehicle for a Swamper build. An off road mode in AWD and torque converter auto box are advantages over the T6.1 4motion.

Providing of course they have sorted the engines!

Getting the thread back on track…

I didnt understand what they were saying, but the video seemed to be about a bunch of middle aged men with overly-pimped swampers going up some dusty mountain tracks.

I laughed when they had the bonnet up on the Ford, but of course later on they had to tow the VW up the mountain!!!

It seems the Ford performed well and better than the T6.1, mainly because of the torque converter auto box vs the DSG. It has no diff lock though as far as I can tell. The issue they had with the Ford was the air suspension completely deflated. It was a loose airline which they quickly fixed. It seems VRB have a compatible suspension for the Transit already so I’m guessing there will a version for the VW variant. The moral seems to be don’t let Terranger fit it

235/65r17 KO2’s ran for 6k miles. No issues.
No tPMS , but tpms, only shows pressure inside the tyre.
If it was going to affect anything it would be ABS for the axle turning.
But they still turn nicely on the French autobahn !!
I have these from an old raised T6.
Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus 235/65 R17 108H XL (GAN)
Modular Steel Wheel 17" x 8" ET40 Black Load rating 1200Kg PCD 5/120mm..

Will they fit stock Cali 4M diff T6.1 2023?
And if so I guess snowchains won't fit?

They should fit but not sure about snow chains.

A VAG group mobile mechanic who specialises in cambelt changes posted on his feed today that the new Transporter has the Ford wetbelt 2.0 engine fitted.

I'm going to coin a new phrase; You've got Camping and Glamping. In the realm of Swamper, i'm more of a Gwamper....Whilst I'll confess to some periodic rural driving, I also love the look and style.

However, my next-step-Gwamper aspirations have already been muted.

I did some 'committed' research into fitting a Bullbar and Laserlamp Sentinels for our GC600.

Called up the insurance company and theres zero appetite to insure with a bullbar. And given I refuse to cut the chrome grille to fit the integrated lights, looks like i'm sticking with just the OEM leds for now.

Tempted to get a storage box fitted on the underside of the bike rack for light bulky items just to make me feel better...

Could go with some bonnet/ditch lights instead? I think Mule Vans do brackets for the Crafter. I have fitted Stedi work lights to my Cali and they are great at a reasonable price compared to Lazer.

Yeah thats my middleground. That said, they arent driving lights; more utility. right?

Correct, even if you did wire them into the canbus I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t be legal.

Hard to beat the lazers ST4’s for driving lights, possibly the best upgrade on my van.

A "swamped' multivan. Looks less like a people carrier but the proportions still a little bit off imo.

Oh, thats not nice...

Its just too....sleek..

I have to agree

Is that your one? I love the look of that!

Just a word of caution to anyone that has purchased the Tactic Vans awning supports. The bolts appear to not be stainless steel or galvanized. I’ve contacted their support for guidance. See photos for reference.

Those wheels aren't helping its case.

That’s not good! I haven’t had the same issue on mine (yet) but I shall keep an eye on them.

As they are mostly 3D printed I’d have thought they would have used stainless steel hardware given the price.

Re wheels, god no. If a t6/6.1 was done out like that (crap wheels, gloss arches, those colours) I think that would look odd too.

If it was the 4wd hybrid (which doesn’t exist yet, even in Cali form) in a solid colour, textured arches, with a roof tent and, I dunno, side molle panels (as tailgate can’t take weight) then we’d all be more impressed.

Those wheels aren't helping its case.
They have a 20” wheel option with “force beadlock” which seems ludicrous to me. If you actually want to go off road even on well maintained tracks 18” wheels are about as big as you would go, 20” is just daft.
