I'm going to Europe for 4 weeks. Is it possible to purchase the automatic tags on the way? As I understand understand that you normally register and have the tags mailed to you.

And what alternative are there?

Thanks in advance!

I live in Sweden I should say as well and Bip&Go don't ship to Sweden, you can't even register.

Hi Johan,

in Italy we use mostly Telepass, but is limited to Italy and just a few other countries.
After the deregulation some other operators are being accepted just like https://tolltickets.com/en/ which has some interesting offers for the travellers.

Have a nice day,

Iv been to France twice over the last two summers

https://www.bipandgo.com/en/ Works perfectly for me every time, I think it can be used in more than just France also, but I find it excellent! They post the tag, I live in Ireland!
Just one problem with Bip & Go for anyone UK-based, it requires you to bank with a provider who are part of the SEPA direct debit scheme and unfortunately most UK banks aren't in it anymore (no comment). Not sure if it's the same with Fulli but wouldn't be surprised, I ended up getting an Emovis tag (for France only) which you can get a discount on via the CAMC.

The SEPA direct debit problem can be got around by getting a Revolut debit card and opening a euro account (in addition to the sterling one) keeping sufficient funds there. My Revolut is single use for this purpose, SEPA payment this way has been seamless. I tried Starling previously, which claimed to be SEPA compliant but was not.

You can use this (in theory anyway) to check if your Bank will take SEPA direct debits:

Personally I wanted to avoid having SEPA International direct Debits into my main bank, as I imagined the nightmare of resolving issues if they arose. Hence I keep only just enough on Revolut to meet my Fulli invoices.

Yeah way too much faff for me, am far too lazy to be maintaining additional EUR accounts :)

Am I reading this right?
First year (with one visit to France) will cost 52.40 (inc local VAT) PLUS the cost of tolls on the french visit?
Then 2nd year onwards (with one visit) will cost 19.00 each year (inc local VAT) PLUS the cost of tolls on the french visit?

Just had our CAMC Magazine through so a potential saving of 12.00 as no application fee.
Wondering if indeed its worth the cost - but I guess from a hassle factor of potentially having to slow down and queue, and then scramble for the right change..... maybe...

Yeah you save the application fee through CAMC and the deposit is refundable if ever you want to cancel and return the tag. So really I just view it as an ~80p a month maintenance fee for having an account and then basically up to £14 a year for the convenience of being able to blip through the autobooths. Obviously much quicker, you don’t need to involve a passenger as the booths are on the other side of a RH drive vehicle (my passenger is prone to nodding off!), there’s no scrabbling around for bank cards and the conversion charges are likely a bit lower than your bank will charge you.

I tried to sign up for Bip and Go which is cheaper but as Viktorgeorge said, you’ll need something like a Revolut account for that due to the SEPA thing.

You definitely don’t NEED a tag that’s for sure, but I suspect you’ll wish you had one if you’re running late for a ferry and the person in front of you is taking ages, or you manage to drop your bank card down the side of your center console on approach to the booth (we did both :D).

Telepass multi country works in all coiuntries that I know use a tag system for cars - France Spain Portugal Croatia

Is this really worth the hassle for people making 1 or 2 trips per year. Never had an issue using a UK card to pay tolls at the booth. Just use a card with no transaction fees. Assuming you have a passenger of course.

It’s as simple as signing up and sticking a tag on your windscreen so I suppose it’s actually the opposite question, is the hassle of the tolls worth not having one? Everyone will have a different answer but for us it’s worth it.

Have found ATMB to be excellent, worth a look. Great customer service, low fees compared to others and can set up with credit card rather than DD which is a major win if you don’t already have a revolut etc account. Good for the increasing number of barrier free / free flow autoroutes in France too.

Perhaps I need to look into it. Never thought they were necessary in the past

Oh they’re definitely not ‘necessary’, I think it all comes down to your personal circumstances really. We travel with a 2 and a 4 year old so we’ll jump on any opportunity to reduce stress to be honest! They’re also not great sleepers overnight so that travelling window where either me or the Mrs can get some shuteye rather than be on ‘peage standby’ can be the difference between a happy day and a grumpy day.

I can imagine if you travel without the two bundles of absolute chaos (and things are a bit more chilled out generally) then you might be absolutely fine without.

They don't seem to have an English translation on their website anymore

Don’t think they ever did. Just use google translate. They post to the uk, billing etc no problem.

It really is worth having one. No queues and no problems if there is no passenger. I only cross the continent twice a year but I think it is a must have.
Plus I use it on rental cars when I’m in one of the countries which use tolls

You are right Edocali.

I've read that many users with a non italian bank account had problems with the purchase of a Telepass device/service, but yes, it's compliant with EU tag systems.

Used these for years with no problems.

We use Bip and Go, easy to order and billing no problem but you do need a Euro account. I use Starling Bank for that, they also offer 4% interest on their deposit account so my interest pretty much paid for all my Italian and French tolls last year.
