New 6.1 Ocean water from under cupboard

Hi all
Had our ocean 2 weeks. Drove it back to the north from Poole no issue and it has sat on the drive for 2 weeks , with water in fresh water tank. All dry.

Mrs>11 popped out today to show to her parents and on arrival we had water at both ends of the cupboard on the floor. Under sink was dry.

What could I be looking at here beyond a leaking pipe?

Have you had a hard frost???
Possible split pipe from being frozen.
Tank should be drained down in cold weather or a heater left on to keep the interior above 5c

Has been fairly mild but good shout that in that I should have drained it down. Tank was about 1/4 full

That doesn't appear to be very much water at all. Depending on how your van is sitting(level or not) it could actually have ingressed from the other side. Are all your windows closed properly? I would dry it up then run the tap and see if the water comes back.

Have you tried to use the fresh water tank drain valve, located under the Gaz bottle cover? Even just opened and closed it again? There is a known issue if you have.

I’m away for a week now so have dried up and drained.

I’m going to fill up and try running taps again next weekend and see.

Sorry I wasn’t too clear. The drain valve at the base of the fresh water tank is sometimes misaligned with the hole where the water leaves the vehicle. The result is that some water is directed under the boot floor, usually gathering where the boot door closes, but can spill into the boot itself, on the cupboard side. This happened to our van when new, and a number of other forum members have also reported this. The VW dealer knew what to do as it’s a known assembly fault, and adjusted the parts so the holes lined up. It took 30 minutes.

So I was asking if you had perhaps had operated the drain valve, to see what happens etc? If so, and you then saw water, maybe this is the cause?

Worth checking that the nearside side window is completely closed. There was an occasion when we thought ours was completely closed but it was not fully latched into the closed position (they can be a bit fiddly) and after rain overnight water went in behind the cupboards with the result that you have above.

Ah right, thanks. Funny enough when Mrs>11 returned I emptied the tank fully. The van wasn’t level but the water basically seem to come out of everywhere at the back of the van rather than a single point

I didn’t have time to investigate as rushing out to airport. It’s on my list to have a look this weekend as didn’t seem right but though it may have just been van wasn’t level

It’s a good point because only the day before I had that window open to air the van and it did rain last night quite a bit.

It “felt” closed when I checked but the wife did say that whilst the under of the sink felt dry there was soMe Water on the shelf in the rh cupboard and it’s not clear to me how it would get there from a split pipe.

When I had this in my T6 it was the sliding window seals that needed cleaning. I also had water on the shelves beneath the sink

Have you checked the top of the waste/grey Water tank ? If the water is due to a leaking side window (lots of posts regarding poor design of the integral drains) then the rain water tends to collect along the top of the tank before running down (normally into the cupboard). Also check that the access cover for the waste tank is not leaking.
An easy check that it not the window is to tuck some kitchen towel up behind the sink above the waste tank.

The fresh water tank drain is above the plastic undershield to protect it from the muck thrown up by the rear wheel. It drains onto the undershield and where it drains out depends on the position of the vehicle . That's normal.

If the water is due to a leaking side window (lots of posts regarding poor design of the integral drains) then the rain water tends to collect along the top of the tank before running down (normally into the cupboard). Also check that the access cover for the waste tank is not leaking.
An easy check that it not the window is to tuck some kitchen towel up behind the sink above the waste tank.

My guess also, the front drain on the kitchen side window leaks and when it does, a big pool of water on your waste tank is normally the first sign.

I also agree it's probably the side window. Mine also leaks. Closing two handed firmly helps. Also keep the seal supple with gummy pledge. Water pouring out all over the back of the van is normal when draining. Someone in a petrol station was concerned when my van was draining out and ran over to tell me. Lol

Until I had the window out and siliconed the seals I had no idea it would make such a difference! I also thought about putting a new seal on but it appears you can’t get the seal on its own, only as part of a new window which is standard VW!

You can use a q-tip bud or a small paintbrush dipped in silicone spray or Gummi pfledge to clean and lubricate the window seals without taking the window out, I do mine a few times a year and no leaks yet.

good tip! getting the window out the kitchen side was a right pain!

What’s the “known” issue?

The water tank drain and gas locker dropout are not aligned and so when the drain tap is opened water splashes onto the boot floor under the rear wardrobe. Where it appears within the vehicle then depends on the orientation of the vehicle. Nose up , near tailgate, Nose down, kitchen cupboards.
Open gas locker, remove bottle, look down to gas dropout. Nothing should be in the way apart from a steel crossbar.

And this is what it looks like, viewed from the gas locker. The off-centred drain / gas drop out can be seen on the left hand side. We noticed water in the boot when the water tank (Van nearside) was higher than the drivers side (UK), allowing water to flow into the boot space when draining the fresh water tank.

Shine a torch down the gas drop out hole and check the alignment.
