Down in the new forest this weekend for the wiggle sportive road ride ..hopefully the weather will be kind to us and if anyone else has entered in for the Saturday it would be great to meet up to pound a few miles out with you ..
Camping out at long meadow campsite the whole weekend as it starts and finishes in brockenhurst ..lets hope the heater and Cali- topper isn't needed ... Lol :)

Re: New forest wiggle sportive ride 5th - 6th oct

Forecast is looking reasonable for the weekend at the moment so you should be OK. Not that windy either (F3 Westerly) which will be good for the ride as a lot of the roads are open and exposed to the wind.
I'm not doing the event, most of the route is part of my regular training or club rides anyway. Looks a good ride and other Wiggle events I've done have been well organised, enjoy and watch out for the wildlife. As a local race organiser says "you may encounter horses, cattle, ponies and Sunday drivers, all of which have no road sense".

Re: New forest wiggle sportive ride 5th - 6th oct

We're also down in the forest this w/e so may bump into you. Wont be doing any hardcore cycling though. We're staying at Setthorns campsite Fri/Sat.

Re: New forest wiggle sportive ride 5th - 6th oct

Good luck Lee. I would have done this had I not done the 103 mile Brighton to Brighton on Sunday. Some of the guys I cycle with are doing it and looks to be a good route.

cheers

There's going to be a few thousand riders flying about and yes the route should make it a great ride whatever the weather :)

Definitely Lee. I think the first one I will do next year is the Burgess Hill Springtime Classic. Have only ever done that one and the Brighton to Brighton so still early days for me yet with Sportives.

cheers

All setup at long meadow campsite in the new forest just having dinner .. The site is buzzing with most doing the sportive this weekend .. There's loads of other dubs and at least one other Cali on site .. The event is on the grounds of the campsite and looks to be a big weekend ride :)

Re: New forest wiggle sportive ride 5th - 6th oct

Are you aiming for a time to complete it in Lee?

Good luck

What was the ticket time? Most of my guys were gold standard on the ticket time at the end.

Gutted I missed it as it looked really good.

Re: New forest wiggle sportive ride 5th - 6th oct

I will pencil it in, can't say for definite this far in advance though. Got a new bike last week, so hopefully by then I will at least be comfortable on it and have it finely tuned.

cheers

Re: New forest wiggle sportive ride 5th - 6th oct

Sweet ...!!! U got a new ride ... I'll put a new thread up for members bikes .. I like bikes more than cars .. Lol
What you have and what you get Alex :) ?

Re: New forest wiggle sportive ride 5th - 6th oct

I was riding an Orbea Onyx with Shimano 105 groupset which will now become my winter bike. New bike is a build rather than off the shelf. Went for a Time ZXRS frame with SRAM red 10 groupset and carbon Time pedals. Trying some Argent tubeless wheels and tyres which I will get on Saturday so the whole bike should be sub 7kg :D

Lovely to ride and very very quick!

What about you?

Re: New forest wiggle sportive ride 5th - 6th oct

Nice ... Slightly deferent from the norm which is cool .... I'll start a bike thread up later ;-)

Mmmmmm carbon, sounds fast !!
Be interested to hear what the tubeless wheels/tyres are like to ride. Got the option to run tubeless on my TT bike (Fulcrum red Wind CULT's) but there doesn't seem much choice of tyres available at the moment.

Will be able to contribute more to a bike thread as all my 'other rides' are pedal powered.

Re: New forest wiggle sportive ride 5th - 6th oct

Should make quite a difference. Wheels are lighter than the ones I am on now, and can run pressures at 90 psi as opposed to 110-120 psi so should make it a smoother ride.

Testing new wheels and tyres on Saturday morning, so looking forward to that.

cheers
