It depends what you’re going to use it for: storage; dry living area for ‘x’ people; living and sleeping for ‘x’ number; how many nights you’d use it for (minimum amount); how many nights per year your using (heavier tent material lasts longer); etc.
For instance we have 2 Vango awnings, a Kela and a Galli. The Galli is used when we have family with us, minimum 5 nights. The Kela we use for us 2 as storage and occasional sleeping, minimum 3 nights. Otherwise we have a rain tarp, and the roll out sun canopy plus added shade tarps.
Also if you’re touring as opposed to camping for a period on one site, we find drive away awnings take up too much space. Just finished a 3 week tour of Ireland and we didn’t take the awning, just a rain tarp and a wind break.
