New T6.1 order delays

its not just vans , we have been waiting 7 months for a toaster and our bosch kettle broke and they can't replace it because they have none. i went to my local motorcycle shop and they have no bikes, and can't get any new ones. i think micro chips are to blame for a lot of delays.i make parts for f1 and we are waiting for material all the time.
I know there’s lots of issues for many items mainly coming from the east. Lack of shipping containers, microchips etc. But to be a told some 8 weeks back when I’m 14 on the list that it’s either May without tow bar of June with then to find out it’s another 2 months is a bit rubbish especially when it seems other vans are coming through with the same spec items which were lower down the list back then.

Feel for you @Kevin Flint the fact that your order is being overtaken by more recent orders must be so frustrating - you must be fuming.
Mine is an 150 Ocean ordered mid November with only 1 option of larger fuel tank and its only just gone into build, I have a feeling that other oceans ordered after mine have already been delivered. With my order being for a fairly standard Ocean I can’t determine any logic to the sequencing in of build dates.
Hopefully it will be all be worth it when they finally do arrive.

Thanks @Stu@rt. I'll hold of my pinging for as long as I can bear. Like @melifornia mentioned, our last dealer contact was a month ago and we were told there would be 4-weekly list updates, so I'll give them a day or two and then start prodding
Hi Graham, sorry but I have to ask if you have any updates? If you recall, our "queue" numbers were next to each other, for similar vans. Build week 20? Neither VWC, nor my dealer can give me any details apart from, "still in build". That's nearly 4 weeks in to a 2 week build now. No tow bar, or TPMS to see here, so not aware that I have any contentious options specified. Others in the week 20 club seem to now be at the port now. So just a little curious how your Coast is coming along? Have you reached out at all? Or are you still resisting the urge?

Vw chat can only tell you when it arrives at the port but your dealer can get a more accurate update of what stage of build it is at, have you spoken to your dealer?

Hi @Stu@rt. I was afraid you'd ask but that is spooky. I nearly didn't post it for fear of winding you up even more but I've literally just had a dealer update. Are you ready for this?..

So, I never made it into the Week 20 club and have been sitting at status 10 with no confirmed build until this landed in my inbox this morning, from Adam at LVC (who has been brilliant I must say). And I quote:

"Some great news for you!! Your California had flew past status 20 so built and now shipped. I’m expecting it to land in a couple of weeks so will definitely have it ready for you before the end of this month."

I've asked for some clarification around the status code and what "shipped" means (on the way to the port, waiting at the port or on a boat?) because, as we all know, that "couple of weeks" could be rather optimistic.

Needless to say, we are a tad excited. When did you last check yours with your dealer because I'm getting the impression this info has come out of the delayed queue update from VW. Maybe 128 and 129 are indeed sitting next to each other on a cruise? Fingers crossed for you.

That sir, is fantastic news. You are right to be excited. Last chat with the salesman was on Friday last week. He was unable to see any updates on the system and told me he was on AL this week. Online chat just tell me that the build was due to start on May 17th and is still in build. All very odd.
Glad you are on the move though. Don't forget to share some pics when she arrives eh?

Thanks, will do. I'm sending positive energy waves that yours had "flew past status 20 so built and now shipped" too.

Everything crossed for you Stuart. Could you update your avatar? Yours is a Coast isn't it? Seems a very significant point in the scheme of deliveries...

I've updated it Tim.
I had previously left it as "Looking to buy" as I wasn't a bona fide "owner" as yet.

Feels like there should be some other options in there now right? Maybe "Limbo", "being kept in the dark", or "At VWC's mercy". Something like that ;)

I ordered in feb and still do not have a build week number !!! Should I have a build week by now.

A ‘bloody van’ which seems to have the longest build time known to mankind.

I called my dealer yesterday. No one has any idea what is going on with my order. I was 14 on the list and was asked back in April to ‘tow bar (June build) or not to tow bar (May build). I chose the former. I now seems I’m not likely to be getting built until August! So it will be some 12 months between order and delivery.

I’m starting to have a conspiracy theory on the basis my ‘deal’ back on Sept was so good that VW are hoping I cancel so they can flog it for £20k more. I know it’s probably not true but sounds good.
re. Conspiracy theory - I've been thinking the very same thing since my van was built and sitting at Emden since March 22nd....I still haven't got the bloody thing and 2 AND A HALF MONTHS HAVE PASSED. Dealer finally emailed 20 minutes ago that it will be delivered on a trailer on Monday 14th....4 DAYS FROM NOW!!!! These multiple delays have definitely taken the gloss off a bit let's say....

Mine was ordered 8 October and I don't have a build week yet...

Thank you for update. I will be lucky to get it by end of the year then.

at a car plant when there is a part missing on system or a quality issue. it will not go into build.
it will be pulled out of the system which is not easy. if an hour later the parts tuned up. it could take a few weeks to get put back in the system . that's how you get delayed. the system don't no if its a brake light bulb or set of wheels. its no ones fault . its just how it is. the parts get to factory just in time. they do not stock pile.

thank you

good to know I suppose. October wow !!
I should add that I’ve ordered a tow bar and sports pack both of which have caused delays. Oceans ordered after me are at least being built...so you might be lucky. It seems like pot luck tbh

Good news for you Graham, we too ordered from Adam at LVC. Ours is now at Port of Tyne awaiting transfer to dealership. We now have our number plate and chassis number! As you said too, we should receive in the next 2 weeks. Wishing everyone else speedy deliveries.

i wouldn't mind but we decided to do an extension at the very same time. Had no kitchen, not hot water or central heating since Jan. And guess what..???? bloody delays!!!!! At this rate I reckon both builds will come in like buses and I wont know what to do with myself. Ordered end of Nov. 204 4 motion sports and all the gear and not one utter of anything. This blog is the only thing keeping me happy & sane, as it is nice to see others getting theirs. even when it does come in, I think I'll still keep an eye on this thread.

i was very lucky to make it onto the earlier ship. hope to get it in time for our honeymoon. it should be at dealer next week then 2 days for p d i .

Gutted, just got a call from our dealer in Limerick Ireland and our van will not be built now until week 50, so we will be vanless now until Jan 2022. we ordered it on the 2nd January 2021. and initially told, build week 23, then 25 then 35 now week 50!. It was a Beach, manual, tinted windows, two-tone paint, Bay leaf green and white, aux heater, nothing extra. I can't understand how it has been pushed back so much. It appears UK orders are going through a lot quicker. Anyone else from Ireland finding the same delay? Should I start a thread for Irish Californias?

Same here in Spain, likely to be a year until picking ours up (March '22)
On the plus side, you have a build week ;) There are some on here who ordered two or three months before you without even that.

I don't know what plans you had for the van but in our case at least there's little difference between the original quoted leadtime of Oct '21 and the new Mar '22 estimate: we were going to miss the summer in it anyway, and it looks like (fingers crossed) like it'll be here for the easter break.
So really have only lost a few winter weekends, which we might even be locked down for again!
