New to bike rack: how do I clamp the stem to the bike frame?

Planning on taking the bikes away this weekend...... 2 hours to departure!

Foolishly, I didn't check the exact fixings for the bikes in advance.

It's a VW 4 bike rack on a secondhand cali.

I have downloaded the rack fitting instructions in case they shed any light on this, but I couldn't find anything relevant.

The key turns the handknob on each stem fine, but I can't seem to find a way to make the knob tighten the clamp on each bike frame. I have tried pushing it in as I turn, or not pushing it in as I turn, but doesn't seem to make any difference.

Could anyone put me right, please?

Going back out to try again, but I can't think of any other things to try at the mo.

Guess we might just have a good walking weekend instead of cycling!

Thanks.

Never had a bike rack so no tips from me ....
Must be someone that can help!
Try google a movie ...must be one online...

Bump-up;)

You need to hold the hand knob still and turn the key and barrel 180 degrees relative to one another. Try a wee squirt of WD 40 or similar to the slot for the key as they are prone to partially seizing due to low use. Have fun.

The key makes the tightening wheel free spin so it cannot be undone to steal the bikes. If you lock/unlock it then twisting the black handle screws the clamps together or apart. I hope that helps.

Rather belatedly, thanks for this. Turns out two of the handwheel weren't working properly. All replaced and working now.
