VIP Discount New VIP Discount Partner: Safeguard Insurance

I insured with Safeguard on my daughter's recommendation - she's been with them for years including when she was living in her van (Sprinter not VW) in the Alps. She had a claim when the van was hit by a German driver in France and it was dealt with and didn't cause any problems, got to be the best recommendation!
Mine might sound a bit high at £432 but several other companies wouldn't insure my husband as he's 77. No problem with Safeguard and I also have my daughter on it in case we ever need her to drive us in case of illness or whatever.

Have been with Safeguard for a couple of years and just renewed with them. No idea what discounts we did or didn't get, and not (quite) the cheapest, but very helpful on the phone and they were OK amending the cover to more or less exactly what we wanted.

Hi Mark, did you find there was any significant price increase for Year 2 on your renewal with Safeguard? I'm shopping around for insurers and Safeguard are my preferred option but I'm concerned that the price could go up significantly after the initial 'discount' year.

Anyone else had trouble contacting Safeguard?

I have called them 3 times this morning and each time was on hold listening to a recorded message advising they were busy but would be speaking to me soon . (i held on for 15 minutes on each of the 3 occasions ):headbang
Finally gave up and emailed them on their contact page ,asking for a call back. Waited all day and surprise surprise , no return call.:Nailbiting
I have to ask are we promoting the correct insurance company on the forum ?
Anyone else had problems contacting them ? It always makes me worry when you cannot get through to companies for a quote ......what will they be like if i was unlucky enough to need to contact them in the event of a claim?

As a comparison , i then called Comfort Insurance .
They answered the phone , gave a very competitive quote (in my opinion) and were extremely helpful with regard to all the questions i had with reference to additions i have made to the California Ocean. They also clearly explained the "48hr" rule which has been the subject of previous forum members worries , which does not appear to be a problem to me as i do not intend to leave my vehicle in a foreign campsite without returning to it within 48hrs.
(Another bonus with Comfort is the ability to do an online quote which incidentally was exactly the same price as when i rang and spoke to sales team )

I'm having some worrying times trying to get insurance that is not astronomical.
Has anyone had their no claims bonus transferred over when insuring with Safeguard? I have 13 years with current Volvo.
If this is yes then how long before they need proof of the NCB?

Tried many others and many will not insure because of location, road parking and price of vehicle.
This looks like the only way that I'll able to reduce to one car.
If I'm unable to transfer then it's S,D and P only.!

I'm in a similar situation with location and road parking, Safeguard seem very reasonable compared to a number of other providers but the sub £500 prices paid by many forum members are a distant dream for us. They have said they'll transfer no claims from a car and allow it to be protected too.

Is that for an Ocean/SE or Beach ?

I was with Safeguard for one year before I went to Comfort.
They were insistent on knowing exactly what make and model the alarm was, they had me ringing round dealers and VWCS to find out (hilariously none of them knew), so they put our Cali down as having no alarm which annoyed me.

They were really funny about the alarm/immobiliser situation when I first contacted them before ordering back in Jan/Feb but in a recent conversation to obtain a quote they knew exactly which one it was and read it out to me so I can only assume this is sorted now.

Thatcham list the Cali alarm/immobiliser on page 19.

Lewis hi, apologies for the delay replying . . . just got back from long trip to France and Spain is the excuse . . . if its still relevant, we haven't had any of those stupid initial discount games with Safeguard, the renewals for years 2 and 3 stayed about the same as the first year.

Apols again,

Mark

Teejay, hi, yes I transferred a no claims bonus to Safeguard; they were very good about it. They wanted to see the relevant renewal from the other company, I think within 14 days of taking out the policy. But when they got it, they rang me to say I had miscalculated and refunded about £100. We have a couple of other specialist cars, not sure if thats relevant.

I don't feel terribly strongly about insurance, and the only real evidence I suppose would come in the claim that I hope never to make, but my experience of Safeguard has been good and the policy was more or less what we wanted.

Hope helpful,

Mark

Thanks, Mark. This was my final Safeguard hurdle before commiting. Hope the trip went well!

Thats good, and thanks yes it did, can't quite believe we're home really - reality hit when getting off the Bilbao ferry on friday and the first thing we heard from the satnav was "re routing due to multiple traffic incidents". Time to start planning methinks.

I very nearly arranged insurance with Safeguard but not being insured to drive other vehicles on third party was a show stopper for me.

We're also having fun and games trying to sort insurance out with Safeguard.

Thank you vmaxkiddy for the link - will send it across tomorrow so hoping this will answer their question (along with proof of NCD).

Fingers crossed as not sure what else we can tell them!

On P19 it shows the California as Thatcham Cat 2. This is anelectronic immobiliser only I think.
Surely the Factory system includes an alarm...which would be Thatcham Cat 1?
That looks like it's old information for a 2005 on vehicle, which doesn't seem likely to reflect the T6. The VW brochure states it's a Thatcham 1 alarm and immobiliser and I had no issues with Safeguard. It's hard to understand why others seem to be having issues as it's all the same model.

I'm insured with Safeguard and they didn't ask me what kind of alarm I had, I just told them it was the standard factory-fitted one.

It is also a cat1 on early Cali's. May i also add the latest california (T6's) is an evolved version of the original 2004 California, which i consider to be a far superior vehicle.

I've just got insured through Safeguard - they were the only people that would have me! Shame we didn't get a £300ish quote like some people - ours is £700ish, but still better than the £2270 VW quoted me! :shocked

Found that some insurers wouldn't touch the value of 50k+, others wouldn't cover business use for me and my partner, others wouldn't cover parking on the road (Comfort). A combination of all 3 made it pretty stressful search.

Safeguard wanted to know what make/model the alarm system was - its "Volkswagen Security System 1" according to the PDFs on the Thatcham site.

I was in the same boat, was beginning to think it would have to be SD&P only ! Safeguard saved me to, trouble is next year we'll have no options and have to go with SafeGuard eek

Safeguard were fantastic with me, very pleased.

Breakdown cover, myself + 3 drivers (all family) for £400 parked on street.

They also mirrored my 20 years NCB.

Recommended.
