It' because vw don' want you getting in the watertank.

I admire your mod on your Cali. For the few times I empty the fresh tank a year it seems a lot of work for little gain. I normally empty the tank after a trip. The van is normally pretty muddy so is washed at the same time so it gets plenty of water over and under it to clean it so the water coming from the tank is not really an issue for us.
