Hi!

I am very happy to have found this forum as I am from Norway and the california is quite rare here as it is very expensive as new. I found myself a t5 2004 with a lot of kms on the clock, but it has been driven for long distances as a company car and rarely slept in so its not worn that much and everything works. The automatic transmission has been updated and reinforced and turbo is changed and all service is done so it runs nicely. It is also the pre bluemotion 5 cylinder 174hk engine which some consider better than the lower emission 4 cylinders.

Anyway, the cali needs som equipment and extras as there where nothing included. I bought a used pucer screen that is nice and have ordered carpets from http://www.california-camping.de. Any advice on what how to equip it would be nice - I will use it in winter too.

Cheers from Bergen, Norway.

Welcome designosaur!
Nice looking van, just one year older than mine.

Shopping list (Personal preferences):
1.) Set of wintertyres/some with spikes
2.) Gas bottle to cook
3.) Front Windscreencover
4.) Side window-air vent (for circulation)

Everything else: take what you already have (bedding/sleepingbags, pots and pans...).

Enjoy your first trip!
cheers

Great advice - thanks! Do you have some air vent solutions to recommend?

Air vents from Reimo, Brandrup also have them.

Ventilation is very important to avoid condensation when sleeping. Just turn up the Diesel Parking Heater if cold. Good security if vehicle left unattended.

An alternative to those vents above are these Wind Deflectors that allow the front windows to be opened slightly.
