Trevor, others will be on here to advise on the replacement, but it will definitely help to know why you have to get it replaced? Also, a few pics describing the issue may help us to help you better.

We discovered mine in a T6 Ocean were leaking and failed the VW test - meaning they would be replaced under warranty. However, the VW protocol for replacing sliding windows in an Ocean requires the kitchen to be taken out... so I said no thank you, and bought a good quality dehumidifier instead...
I see you have a T5... so the issue may be different?

Mine was replaced without taking the kitchen out. It can be done.

Thanks,

The glass is all scratched so needs replacing unfortunatley i see there are plenty of aftermarket windows but not sure if they fit

Thanks,

Aftermarket windows are normally new fits so the hole is cut to fit the glass.
I would get a quote from VW to supply and fit. Also check Autoglass or equivalent and also good Conversion companies. The kitchen Does not need to be removed.

Are you just talking about the section of the window that slides? Not the complete side glass panel.

The OP is local to me and the VW dealer here advised me the kitchen needs taking out to replace the window. So if he’s going to ask VW he may want to go to a different dealer.

If it is just the glass etc that you need, then check out ebay.

There are loads of genuine California bits on there.

It is possible to just fit the sliding window panel.

I had the off side sliding window replaced some time ago on out T5.1.
The local VW body shop (Heritage at Westbury as was) was able to source and fit (while we waited) just the sliding window.
All other body shops quoted for the whole window insisting the slider was not available as item on its own.

I agree but I‘m not clear if the OP needs the complete panel or just the sliding bit, which as you say is a quick job.

Hi Trevor - and anyone else who can advise. I too have a leaking sliding window above the Cooker and am based in Aberdeen. VW have also quoted me around £750 for a replacement window with another £150 to fit. However I have another much cheaper option from a local campervan specialist . This would be to supply the whole window with the sliding section included. It's supposedly a VW part but although the overall dimensions of the complete window are the same but the sliding section window is much smaller at 33,5 cm x 35.5cm vs 44.2 and 44.7 on my original. Does anyone have this smaller sliding window in a 2015 T5 2.0 SE 180 or similar model - and if so does it matter

I would check that the smaller window they are offering is a OEM part. Don’t think I’ve ever come across one if it is. My leaky 2013 California had the standard size opening with the poorly designed drains. Luckily I got it the window replaced under warranty.

Have you tried clearing out the drain?

There are two, one is at the bottom of the slider rail at the front end. You can see this one when the sliding window is open.

The other is at the back of the slider rail which is always covered by the sliding window panel and can't be accessed.

The round hole changes shape and flattens as it turns through a right angle to pass under the window. It then turns down through 90 degrees again outside and is just up under the glass edge outside the van. The dust and grime washed down, collects, and jams in the narrow part, hence the water leaking inside the van due to this blockage.

You can try using a length of thin electric wire, or a better way is with a can of pressured air to clear it. This should work and is a lot cheaper than a new window which will probably leak again in time.

Thanks Alan, I've tried the pressurised air before and also cleaning out using wire etc. Today I tried with strimmer line and managed to get around 2 meters of line into it which emerged with a very sticky tarlike substance. Then I got about 1.25 meters of a thicker strimmer line in. didn't have any more pressurised air left but poured water in slowly being careful not to overflow the channel. The water did drain away but there was no sign of it exiting the van outside. When I checked in the cupboard under the sink there was water there. Will get another can of air tomorrow and try blowing that through.

There are indeed two sizes for the sliding window, at least there are for the T6. I imagine all Californias are the same size though. To be clear it is the fixed pane that comes in two different heights, I can’t confirm for sure if the sliding pane is a different size. When I purchased tinted window inserts from Solarplexius they emailed me specifically to check the height of the window. Even though I measured it correctly, they still sent the wrong one. Here is a photo of the two sizes. The larger one is the correct one for my T6 Beach. The smaller one is about 30mm shorter. However, when Solarplexius subsequently sent the correct size, I received both panes. The replacement sliding pane is the same size, so I am presuming it’s just the fixed pane that has two sizes.

Maybe this doesn’t help as the sliding pane quoted in the previous post seems to be much smaller. I’ve never seen one that small but if I had I would definitely have noticed. Maybe double check the size of the fixed pane as well.

It sounds like the plastic duct has split.

That length of strimmer line should have gone around the bends and appeared outside the van under the window frame edge.

As it didn't, but water gathered in the cupboard, I assume it passed through a split in the plastic tube inside the body. As you have an older van I suspect this is just down to age and unfortunately looks like the whole window may need to be replaced.

Thanks Alan, I jetted down it with compressed air today and could feel air coming out in the cupboard - which supports your theory. I've bitten the bullet and ordered a complete replacement and fitting with the local VW Van dealer Clark Commercials. I could have got a window £200 cheaper from another supplier and then had it fitted by a local autoglass type company but didn't want to risk it still leaking and me not having the VW two year warranty on the part and labour. Clarks have said that if it leaks they will rectify it. Will get them to check out the plastic tube and replace as required.

Thanks for that information. There is so much uncertainty on the window size that i decided that rather than buy through and intermediary I would go direct to VW. I gave them the van registration number and they were able to identify the exact model and version - so should end up with the correct window. Whether a dealer would do the same thing to give you the part number if you weren't buying it from them I doubt!
