Pimping my Wheels

So my Cherry Red Cali Ocean is about to turn four years old and I’m thinking about a few subtle visual upgrades.

First up are the wheels. I have 17” Cascavels (black with the diamond cut spokes). They’ve taken a few knocks and some of the silver finish has started to deteriorate in places.

I’d like to go with a stronger red and black theme with the van so thinking of some all black wheels. I do like the look of a beefier 18” wheelset but at the same time I like the advantages of the 17” wheels (having a spare, better availability of winter/crossclimate tyres).

So, I’m wondering about having my cascavels repainted (powder coated) gloss black and then fitted with some 235 cross-climates rather than buying some new wheels.

Has anyone done this? I haven’t found any pictures of an all-black cascavel anywhere.

Or am I better off biting the bullet and getting 18” wheels?

Ive done that with my Silver Cali. The cascavels had started to corrode as most Diamond Cut alloys
do. In my opinion they look much better in Gloss Black. I will put a picture up tomorrow.

The professional wheel refurbishment Guys will do any paint finish that you require, at a price which can put it in the realms of not being cost effective.

I stuck with 17" but got a 7.5" width rim, standard 7" wide.

You could keep the 17s with winter tyres on for winter, and get some nice 18s for the summer.

Also you can still use a 16" or 17" as a spare with 18s. Whatever wheels you buy, the circumference should still be the same so it will be fine for short distances. No different to the space saver wheels you get on some cars.

Here’s my set these where my winter wheels for our cali ,recently sold our cali so there up for sale sort of ,,,don’t really want to let them go incase We get another cali in the future but In reality I doubt we will ...currently on our Kombi

Looking very smart I think.

Just collected my newly powder coated (satin black) Davenports. Replaced cascavels that I will put back on next summer. The davenports are fitted with cross climates. I’m very pleased with the difference
