Pop Top Mech Buffers

How many of these are required?
I bought two, fitted two.
Have spotted two more vacant holes (with old witness marks).
Assuming four should be fitted?

VW didn't seem to know.

I'll attach some pics of where I think they should be fitted on the weekend.

Well it's a few days until the weekend.. found this pic, so I've added to bumper grommets one each side at position #1
But can see witness marks suggesting that there should also be 1 fitted at position #2..?

The Parts Diagram shows Position 2. This would provide a Stop Buffer between the 2 struts.
Position 1 would act as a spacer between the strut and roof which could be problematic.

It is described as a Stop Buffer so designed to stop the strut at a set point.
