Pre Booking Campsites in August on the way to Croatia

Hi

We are travelling to Croatia next weekend through France, Germany, Austria and Slovenia and we have started looking at campsites.
We have one booked in Croatia but have found that all the campsites that we looked at are fully booked. We were hoping to keep it fluid and not pre book to many things.
Has anyone else traveled to Croatia in August post pandemic without booking and how easy is it just to arrive somewhere and stay?

We’ve just returned after a tour that included all those countries (except Croatia) and down through Italy. We were never turned away from a site even though their websites always said full - but we often arrived early afternoon. Even a phone call often went unanswered or with a negative response, but turning up in person got the result needed. I think it helps if you don’t require electric - they’ll put you anywhere for €30

Thanks for the info much appreciated. We went to Norway, Sweden and Denmark last year with no problems, but I'm guessing this is a busier route and August is the worst month.
