We are off to Europe for a few weeks and do not have a set return date.

We will return Calais to Dover and I am open minded as to whether this is the Chunnel or a boat

Is it worth booking in advance from a cost perspective ? This will tie us down, which i would raher avoid. Or is it the same price just to roll up and travel ? When I look at ferry prices, they seem far more fixed than flight prices.

I would never risk rolling up at an airport to fly home, but I am wondering about just booking about 4 days in advance as this seems to give "normal" prices. I will have internet access so can book online whilst abroad. If you look to travel tomorrow, it looks like you will get screwed.

Thanks for any advice you may be able to share

I would chance it, especially at this time of year.
The Dover-Calais ferry is hardy expensive anyway except at peak times and our daughter has been using the tunnel regularly this year to go and see the Grand Prix and has got some really good last minute deals.
