Rear door lock/sensor problem

Hi and happy Christmas!

I am having problems with the rear door (boot) of my 2006 t5 cali. The central locking works fine but it does not recognize that the door is open… the really annoying part is that the electric closing latch above the bumper then keeps going in and out trying to pull the door closed… noisy and irritating!
Also, if I only go to the car to get something from the boot, the central locking will lock the car again as it does not think I have opened anything.

My question is where the door sensor is located? Can I just change out the lock mechanism in the door? That looks pretty simple to exchange. Like the one in the pic.

You are correct, the Ajar/Contact switch is contained in the latch as pictured above. Most of these latches have a primary and secondary position. (i.e for safety reasons the latch will grab slightly ajar and then again when fully closed) The ajar switch is made when the claw is fully latched. The soft close element you hear cycling is mounted in the boot floor and doesn't have the ajar switch in it. (they have switches to determine when the door is pulled in) I would check that nothing has fallen into gap in the floor, as it only takes a small bit of debris to stop the latch being fully made, just push the plastic flaps in and check.

The black stick out thingy on the left of the picture is the 2 pin connector of the latch sensor.
If you change the lock, the sensor is replaced too.
