As per thread title might anyone be able to recommend someone who could diagnose and fix my diesel heater.
I have a 2009 T5 California and the diesel heater will only work when plugged into mains electric or the engine is running. Without plug in or engine running it will blow cold for about 10 minutes and then switch itself off.
Thanks, Pete

That sounds like your leisure batteries are knackered rather than a problem with the heater. Not enough oomph to fire up the glow plug on the heater and get it going. Starting the engine has the alternator boosting the batteries as does plugging into the mains.
Turn on the control panel and monitor the battery screen whilst trying to start the heater.

As said above, check the Leisure Battery voltage. If, at any point it drops to 11.5v or less the Heater will fail to fire up. Running the fans take little power but powering the glow plug takes a lot of power.
Hence fans run but ignition fails and heater shuts down.

Thank you I shall monitor the battery levels whilst trying to fire it up. However, the leisure batteries are only one year old. I have owned the van since June and the previous owner has since told me that the heater has not worked without hook up or engine running, for a number of years.

Hi, we had similar on our T5 (we bought it just over 2 years ago) we replaced the Earth Shunt which fixed it. If you search on here there is a guide how to do it and a few other posts about the same issue. I ordered the kit for about £30. I’m not technical but it was easy to follow, you have to lift the fridge out so needed Ed to help with that. It has worked perfectly since without needing hookup.

Switch the lights on in the camping area. If they flicker when trying to start the diesel heater on battery only - then , as said Earth a shunt is a high possibility.

I got a Webasto diesel heater retrofitted to my T6 Beach by a great outfit called Exploria in Brighouse - I guess that's about an hour & half from you:

Give Ribblesdale auto electrics at Chorley a call, they are a repair centre for heaters
