I am just about to start to get my head around the importing of POI data to the RNS 510. I have read the guide in the downloads section. I have two initial questions for anyone who understands how it works:

  • I can't see where the speed camera data comes from from the guide, only how to set it up once it is to hand, and
  • The manual refers to the VW Nav Companion at http://www.volkswagen-nav-companion.de. So I am guessing that there is not an English version of this, so not great for a non-German reader- am I right?

Best speedcam database is on here. Various formats for different systems.

Constantly updated by people reporting new cameras and removal of old/inactive ones.
You do have to pay for it though unless you register and report a few new cameras and then it's free for life.

The instructions asume you already have camera database ib correct format. Sorry I should have added that.
Only srawback is you get absolutely no warning of caneras, RNS510 is not capable of this.

I have more or less worked all this out now, speed cameras from link above and campsites from Camping & Caravan Club poi. Haven't managed to get icons working properly...the little FR-CAMPING one comes up as something quite different and the speed camera ones are all replaced by the POInspect0r default. Any ideas?

Did anyone get anywhere with this? I've just subscribed to Wild Camping and downloaded their POI databases and was wondering if I can import them into the RNS510.

Or should I just use the iPhone app (in which case it won't work if there's no 3g connection)?

It's OK (I think) I just found the instructions in the "Downloads" section :embarrased

For those who cannot wait. Here is a link to the file on Dropbox. Copy the PersonalPOI.db3 file and put it into a folder called PersonalPOI. Then copy the folder to a SD card. Switch on Satnav. When booted up go to Settings - Nav - Personal POI and insert SD card. Follow instructions.

Enjoy. The link should be valid until Cali's on the Farm.

LINK STILL WORKING

Many thanks, have downloaded that and will use it if mine doesn't work. :thumb
