Has anyone in Scandinavia experienced the roof corrosion problem and had it repaired in Sweden or Denmark. I have a 2012 cali with bubbles on the front roof panel. Since the 3 year paint warranty has expired, VW will not fix the roof. I informed about the 6 year extended warranty in the UK but the answer is that this is country specific. Using a new method the cost would be approx 2000 to 3000 euro.

As there are not that many scandinavian members compared to UK members think if i were you i would look for a Cali specialized garage and see what they are thinking .
Just any VW dealer would not be a good idea...ever though of letting the job done in Germany?

There are no specialised california dealers in Sweden as far as I know, most dealers get a demo vehicle and that is it. The dealer i have tried said he fixed nearly all roof warranty jobs. I asked and they estimated max 100 californias, all model years, in Sweden. Germany is worth a shot if no other dealer will give goodwill or warranty.

In plan Swedish! Vem har du talat med i Sverige? i.e. Who in Sweden have you talked to?

I talked to the VW dealer in Göteborg. Still waiting for a confirmation that they will fix the roof on warranty. Latest reply was that it was likely that they would take it, but no written confirmation. Christer, do you have the same issue?

I will let you know what happens at my end. Hope to get an answer from Din Bil Göteborg soon.

Hi we too live in Sweden with a 2012 Beach and are also waiting for a reply about the corrosion we have found on the front panel and on the side of the roof :(

I am a new member of the forum and have just read about the california roof corrosion problems. I have seen that my california 2012 also has this problem.
Can any members of the forum help me with information about the way this problem is handled by vw in Denmark ?

Hi and welcome @jens peter
Shame you needed to come here due the roofcorrosion problem.
The forum will sure bring you in a better mood.

Best to register it at VW asap!

Latest update. I just got info from VW that they now only miss one component in the new way to fix the roof, once they have that my cali will be planned for repair. So it is getting closer

Mine was bought at a Swedish dealer. Michelsens bil, ystad. I don't think that affects the warranty by VW, from what I understood VW in Gothenburg have fixed several vehicles and some these were most likely imported.

I got the roof fixed through the warranty. They changed the front part and it was nicely done by Din Bil in Göteborg. They also changed the rubber seal on the main roof, however when getting back the car I noticed that the main roof also has corrosion. I registered a new warranty claim and hope to get feedback soon. The dealer said that he had no other Cali's registered for repair. I recommend this dealer, good service and no hassle about the issues.

Good that in spite of your issue the dealer is dealing with it to your satisfaction - Excellent, and how it should be. :thumb:thumb

So I just handed over my Cali for warranty work on the main roof. Re-paint of the entire roof. Done on Goodwill from VW Sweden. I will get the car back on next Thursday, and really hope so since we are off on a 4 month roadtrip Thursday evening. Let's hope their guarantee holds that it will be done in time. But really happy with the help from VW.

I cant see the Goodwill here. Goodwill if its in warranty? Sounds like a typical VW dealer to me.

Legally VW Germany are not obliged to fix the main roof after 3 years (at least this is not fixed yet). So the extended warranty only applies for the front part. VW Sweden has taken the cost for the fix, based on goodwill - a certain goodwill amount follows a new car and can be used by the dealer to fix questionable issues.

It seems VW has 12 years rust warranty in Europe what I can see.

That covers corrosion coming from the inside of a panel.
VW don't consider the roof to be this problem, more a paint problem.

Hmm, thought that the roof was fixed. But after a day in the sun in 20170619_160656.jpg Spain it looked like this, The glue that holds the front panel has let go. This was done by vw. Has anyone else had the same issue. In that case the new solution for fixing the roof is not working.

Anyone in Stockholm had any dealings with VW on this issue?

Yes, my car has been inspected by VW Bromma July 2016. I have not heard a word from them after that. At the time, the anti-corrosion warranty was on the limit. I have minor corrosion issues in the corners at the popup roof. And paint damage after possible stonework to the roof front.

Interesting, we take ours into VW Bromma, maybe we can exchange notes, I have spotted some bubbling on our front panel, to date it's looked fine but maybe this winter was too much ;(
