Salvaged Cali

Interesting tactic switching the plate to a generic one local to the seller. Can't see why they would do that other than trying to make vehicle's history a bit harder to follow, even if previous Cat S has been declared.

Seems odd to do that and have images of the old LUL kebab shop plate on there too. Maybe Yorkshire folk don't like driving vans previous owned by southerners?

Plate has not been switched, it's still on the original plate. The other pics with a different plate belong to a lookalike conversion.

Well that makes sense. Though why you mix images of 2 different vans in one advert is plain confusing.

So many questions. Did original owner have an extended warranty. Did the write off void it?

And who will be the first to congratulate the new owner when they appear on the forum buzzing about their new van? Part of me wants to be happy a van has been saved and someone will get to enjoy it. Fingers crossed they don't overpay.

One can see two vans of much the same colour parked next to each other. I think they photographed the conversion by mistake thinking it was the Cali.

Slightly worrying is that as a 4 motion it now has 3 floor rails. Seems a strange thing to add to a van.

I would be looking at the vin plates / engine numbers extremely carefully. Actually I wouldn't, I would be running in the opposite direction rather quickly.

Can you imagine what the new owner, now £55,000 lighter in their bank account, will do with their coffee when I repost the Sun’s video of the crash outside the kebab shop.

It’s amazing that there are no requirements to check the van is safe after a Cat S repair. What is the point of having safety requirements and then allow vehicles on the road that may not meet them???

You’d think a buyer would want to see the level of damage before the repair at least, but I guess someone will be persuaded by the price over safety....or at least that’s what the seller must be hoping for.

I don't think the price reflects the Cat S status though, for a 2018 Cali it's not considerably cheaper than a non Cat S, is it?

Was just about to post exactly the same. Quoting £68k if non cat s in the ad doesn’t make it worth that, even in the current distorted market. I really hope anyone tempted is clued up and not an impulse buyer.

I completely agree but that assumes someone who buys that kind of vehicle has a lot of common sense.

It’s a great looking van, that people will be attracted by. There haven’t been a lot of 4Motion vans around either, so the combo of the 4WD, two tone, alloys and air suspension might just appeal to someone who is more interested in the look than what’s really under the skin.

The money must be in the wheels, according to the description its fitted with 17" davenports & 18" tolucas. as well as the Dakar's in the photo.

Oh dear, I hadn’t clocked the third set of alloys. The very fact the adverts are so riddled with inconsistencies should be enough to make people run. Makes you even wonder if there even is a van or if they are making it up as they go along?

There are always suckers out there...otherwise someone wouldn’t take a chance on putting something like this back together...

Did you see the bit where they say they removed the interior after the body repairs !
I seriously hope that was a miss communication also (Edit: advert on the forum page)

That third floor rail is bugging me. There is absolutely no reason to add one into that van unless the whole floor and possibly more is from a different vehicle.

I agree.

I was under the impression that it wasn’t possible to fit it because the 5th seat caused problems with the 4Motion weight limit. If that is the case it really shouldn’t be there and risks someone adding the 5th seat and causing further safety concerns.

If my memory serves me right it used to be an option in the past.

Yes, but it wasn't fitted to the van before it the accident, so why add one after?

Absolutely but not for many years and certainly not in 2018.

I imagine they have used salvaged parts, where possible, to save on costs. If they replaced the whole floor, which is likely looking at the original damage, I've seen more three rail options than two. Just because they used VW parts, doesn't mean it was built to the correct VW specification. They might also think it will appeal to more people with the third rail.

I almost feel this van needs to come with a warning, with links to this thread...
