Hi, my Sat Nav seems to have gone AWOL. For the past week I am subject to the screen saying 'Navigation starting'. However, it doesn't!! It just keeps telling me its starting!! Has anyone else enjoyed the same issue?

Thanks. I tried to search and didn't find any appropriate content. Your suggestion turned up trumped. Seems like I have to go to the dealer as another member has had the same issue exactly!

The search function can take some time to get used to, changing the wording of the search or limiting the amount of words can help.
sometimes it’s easier to do a Google search with “vw California“ as an additional reference, which usually brings up the Forum answers.

good luck with the issue.

please post an update to help others once it’s been looked at by the dealer

Spent 5 hours in VW York today as they tried to download a major update for the Sat Nav system. After 5 hours the download failed. Their system didn't have the capacity to hold the download!! VW Van York are buying more storage capacity and then they will download the upgrade. I will be returning 14th June for the next attempt to upgrade the system!

Further updates to follow!

Truly Unbelievable on VWs part
Push out a unit that has problems, then they can’t get the fix to the paying customer through their dealer network !

And of Course the VW Dealer will be offering you a large dollop of good will in the way of some accessories, free servicing etc ?

Yes, had this issue. And still got this issue. My gut feeling is it was caused by a failed auto "over-the-air" update that trashed it.

Agree with "Perfectos", this shows lack of product testing before releasing hundreds of thousands to the market. A poor reflection on VW's current quality levels.

I would be insisting on a new unit if they don’t fix it 100% next time, with updates already applied.

similarly I would be pressing the dealer for a “good will” payment, particularly as this is a regular issue with the T6.1 unit.
a unit which clearly has lots of known issues, (known by VW and recorded on this forum / T6 Forum)
problems which the customer would naturally not expect to occur, which renders a highly expensive unit pretty useless for the purpose it was designed and specifically intended to be used for.

So, back to VW Van Centre York yesterday. Software upgrade had been downloaded from VW. I arrived at 0845 after 40 mile trip and was there until midday. Upgrade was not successful. Apparently it would not load. VW Centre do not know if it is my van, the upgrade software or an act of God! Another 80 mile round trip with no progress. They are now consulting with VW Technical and will get back to me!! They have no idea on timescales!

On the way back from the dealer I got a warning on console saying 'Second Battery low - charge'. So, I switched to Max Charge. Today it said ' Battery Empty - Charge'. I have had the van plugged into the mains all day and I am still getting 'Battery Empty' message. I'll leave it overnight charging, but suspect I will be getting in touch with the VW Van Centre tomorrow!!!

Thanks for posting that. I have our's booked in for software updates and the round trip is considerably more than 80 miles. I am now wondering whether to postpone the trip !!

I’m back at VW York tomorrow to have battery issue looked at. They have fitted me in at short notice as I’m worried the issues may be related! I will report back!

I’m may just be unlucky. First time the York centre ran out of capacity to download the upgrades. I’d be grateful if you would post your experience.

Thanks for that. Yes, I will post all updates here (assuming I don't cancel the booking) ;)

Sitting in VW Van Centre York again, another 80 mile round trip. They have been inspecting the battery issue. Discussion with Service Manager reveals the battery is fully charged and they believe charging OK. It is the console/computer that is screwed and doesn't recognise the battery condition. There is also a problem with the SOS only working intermittently. They believe it is all related to software issues. So, they need to do more research and get info from VW and their specialist California site (Hull). So, I await the next chapter, although I do have a van that is useable but keeps 'bonging' to tell me the secondary battery is empty!! :headbang

Thanks for the update. I think I will cancel my trip to the dealer, seems they are still a long way from sorting this software (if ever !). At the moment I am just down on Sat Nav, SOS is green most of the time and 2nd battery "claims" to be full

A fortnight ago, my infotainment system jammed as well. After switching it on, the system hung up with the message "user settings are being loaded". At the same time, every time when starting the engine, I got the message that the SOS emergency system did not work and that I should visit a dealer for this.
Restarting the system and removing fuses did not help, so I made an appointment with the dealer.
Today, I tried again to reset the system without result. Then I pressed the SOS button near the mirror for a few seconds. To my surprise, a little later I heard through the speakers: "you have disabled the SOS function manually" and then suddenly the infotainment system was available again! :D

Hi, just to jump on this thread, I am having similar issues. Quick piece of context - (under a year old 6.1 ocean) nav system started going awol, thinking we were somewhere else in the map to actual position. Then could not load any user profile with endless loading screen so could not access media panel at all. ‘10 second’ reset didn’t rectify problem. Lost all other functions like sign recognition etc too. SOS did not work either (that’s been the case for many months). I called VW road side assistance and the chap told me his diagnostics and data said that I needed a new control panel (hardware) and I then needed to have the ‘big’ software upgrade. He referred me to dealer (Bristol) who have been hugely unhelpful but that’s another story. They told me they don’t take any info from any technicians and have to diagnose themselves .. earliest slot was 2 1/2 months away!!! Anyway.. in the meantime I now have a new issue with leisure batteries saying they are empty but I’m confident they are not as I have solar (I’ll do a voltage check as some point too) so I believe it’s linked to the control panel (like the post above) so I think its all linked and the tech guy said it’s something to do with a malfunctioning battery component in the sos / control module. Who knows, I just know it’s a huge pain before our summer trips are due to begin and I can’t use any functions.

Have you tried to press the SOS button for a few seconds? Regards, Gerard

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried that. The strange thing is, the SOS button is intermittently working. I have temporarily resolved the media unit problem by disconnecting the starter battery and that reset it all. However problems still occur in time. And now the ‘low/ empty’ battery warnings on the top unit and media display is stuck there. It’s all a bit frustrating! Especially when there is such a long wait to get it into a dealer to be sorted out.

Well, I have made progress!! To be fair VW Van Centre York have. On my 4th visit (round trip of 80miles each time) they managed to successfully update the S/W. And it has resolved all the problems. At least, the ones I have noticed: SAT NAV working, Second battery error stopped, traffic sign system working (or at least not intermittent).

So, looks like I won't need a new infotainment system!! Phew!!

This thread has become very dark! there seem to be many problems associated with the infotainment/sat nav and ancillaries. The s/w upgrade I have recently experienced seems to have got the van back onto the straight and narrow. Do any of our more experienced and professional members have any input?

I updated my software a couple of weeks ago to version 0782 and tonight I had the second battery low warning. This after 18 months of no issues. Can you advise the software upgrade version you’re now on?

Yesterday, I had new software installed by the dealer:
Hardware: H57
Software: 0809
Navigation database: 22.6
Media-codec: 3.1.4
Radio database: 1.30.24
On the service note is listed: action 91ct carried out
I am told the SOS and navigation problems should be permanently solved with this. Only time will tell...
