Selling of marketing data VW California Club

Just had a call from plan.com asking if I was interested in upgrading my VF plan. I asked how they got my data and they advised VW Calafornia club. Is my data being sold for marketing purposes?

Vodafone, they were very specific about which site they got my phone number from. Thanks for the assurance re no selling of dara.

there are software programs that search ‘scrape’ names and numbers from internet sites.

Agree. Safer to publish contact details as a jpg or other picture format rather than straight text which the Internet bots can collect easily.

Having published your number and your handle being your full name (Eric?) it wouldn't take a brain surgeon to create a marketing list from a forum trawl. In many cases they don’t even use software, just hire cheap admin workers to trawl sites and create marketing lists.
