If you have DSG then try Sports Mode.

LOVE the sports mode, especially for getting on the motorway on short slip roads.

48,000 miles and I’ve never used sports mode. It sounds too much like it’s fuel hungry.

I coast a lot, I always find it smooth, though sometimes have to brake.

Yeah it's definitely hungry on fuel, it's got a nice kick though. I used to have a Golf GTi and sports mode was like warp speed. It's still pretty impressive in the Cali, I always find it amazing that a vehicle that large and heavy can shift the way it does.

I occasionally use ‘S’ mode, only by mistake though, think I am going South until I realise my mistake.
