bought my Cali last month and today someone stole my spare wheel. I don't know yet if it was a steel or ally wheel, although Larrylamb thinks it was probably a steel one, I will find out in the morning. I will keep a look out on websites.

Scum.

People that will steal off someone's hard worked for pride and joy make me curl.

I hope it brings them all the bad luck that they deserve.

My commiserations.

I'm so sorry to hear that, ian210 :sad

Unbelievable. I checked mine and it's steel. I wouldn't think it would be worth pinching.

Have an alloy on both builds so will probably buy a s/h steel.

I have the Sparesafe lock but was wondering how many combinations are there for the bolt. Put simply could a thief buy a Sparesafe and help themselves.

Twin Bolt rear end of the carrier isn't the problem, front end of the spare wheel carrier is held by a flimsy long pin, bent at the end, and easily straightened and removed, would love to know if any one has come up with a decent usable anti theft device that can be retro fitted from below the vehicle, Best I can think of is stencilling vehicle reg onto inner face of each tyre. Need a company / Individual, that can produce a cheap vinyl curved stencil.

I strangled a plastified iron cable tru it with a lock ...just to make it harder to remove for anyone trying to steal it ...but if they want it , they will take it anyway .
If they steel four times , they got a set ready to sell , the basterds!

The trouble with human detritus that steals off hard-earned artefacts is that they are cerebrally challenged, I do believe "thick" is the common metaphors, but then so is a house Brick and they construct, not destroy.

They will not equate effort to steal with reward accomplished, only that "to steal" is the end object. So sad. The average amoeba floating on top of human refuse has more intelligence, this lot sink to the bottom of even the most acrid stinking pile.

Yes Wim but for goodness sake I am British!

Why use three words when I can use 30 :oops:

( meaning that I am a waffling old tart that could even bore the European Parliament to death).....

I use a steel cable similar to the ones they use to secure motor bikes. This is threaded through a bulkhead on the underfloor of the van and the around the wheel and finally locked on with a key. It foiled the guys when the came to fit my toe bar so it should foiled the opportunists low life. They won't know that it's there until they try to pull the wheel out of the cradle.

Thanks guys for all the responses. It was probably 'travellers' who took it, so they would be just after the tyre, fitted on a different vehicle now. Cable would stop an opportunist, but the aforementioned would be carrying bolt croppers anyway.
Jen, you couldn't bore the European Parliament, because they're all asleep.

Are we not travellers when we are using our Cali.s Given the cost of a new tyre nice little money spinner only need to look on ebay to see how many tyres are sold second hand

I have removed a new tyre from my spare and fitted a just legal get you home tyre and fitted a wheel safe lock
there were lots of posts about a year ago re tyres being stolen Legoland was on place they were being nicked from.

my advise replace spare with a get you home tyre which is just legal

Thanks Meoncoast.
I have been thinking of using an old tyre as you said. The Leisure centre where I was parked has had a few problems with 'travellers'.
I have just spoken to a friend who works for Pepsi, who run a fleet of T5s, they have lost 50 spares so far.

I have a SafeLock on but also carry a SLIME kit with 12v compressor which is useful for the bikes or checking tyre pressures for any reason.

50 tyres at £175 to £200 each needs some police sting van up your way
Next time I have the wheel off going to paint it pink

Many tyre centres say they will not repaire a tyre if you use the slime do not know how true that is

No problem. It can be washed out as it is water soluble and anyway I would have a new tyre fitted. I don't trust repairs after having a repair plug pop out at 60 mph on a previous vehicle. This a pure get you going system. More often than not the side wall will be suspect if you have travelled any distance on a flat in such a heavy vehicle. I don't take chances with my continuing existence or a £50,000 vehicle at 70 mph. There isn't much contact between the vehicle and the road and what there is must be in tip top condition.
Just my view and anyone is free to disagree.

I believe Slime is the one you leave in permanently, which I haven't used myself. However, I have used aerosol puncture repairs on motorcycle tyres and managed to ride to the nearest garage, re-inflate and get home. Then had the puncture repaired ok by a motorcycle tyre fitter.

Can be pre-installed in bicycle, motorcycle and all terrain vehicles. Tends to be used for one off punctures on normal vehicles but can be pre-installed . Used for tread punctures only.

Very sad, unfortunately I had the same present few years ago. VW sell a anti thief kit so that to remove the spare wheel you need a special unique key.

I love that idea. As soon as I get the chance, I'm painting mine with the brightest combination of Day-Glo colours I can find!!!
