what happens when I assume a stone jumps at your front intent on damage? If it's a small stone it does this

Which means coolant everywhere and AA trip home. Any ideas on costs and labour for a new radiator?

That seems like bad luck....can't help on guessing the repairingcost i am affraid.

Sounds , looks expensive, I added a lower grill mesh from Zunsports to our T5 but they have not made one for the T6 yet

Maybe ask VW for some goodwill?

:rolleyes::D:D:Grin

Seriously, bad luck on this - ask an indie VW specialist for a quote as well as main stealer. And shop around for the parts.

Can't see VW offering anything as on this occasion it isn't their fault - it's hard enough when it is their fault!

Login to GSF with your reg number, (apply weekend discount code) order their premium priced (best quality) replacement radiator and a gallon of Prestone antifreeze concentrate, (Prestone is a little cheaper from Costco) .. get an independent garage you trust to fit it and replace coolant with 50% Prestone. Lookout for a radiator stone guard as previously mentioned. Good luck with your fix.

Normally I'd agree but this is a new van. If non VW parts are fitted they will try to wriggle out of any future warranty claim associated with the coolant system so I'd get it priced up as well at a dealer. If the difference is minimal then personally I would go with the dealer.

Thanks for all the advice, much appreciated :cheers
Waiting for the dealer to get back to me, hoping insurance will help out as it was an accident involving a stone.

Looks repairable to me by specialist . Have had landrover radiator repaired when stone pierced it . Loud bang and coolant over windscreen . Excellent repair . Like new .

Had this on my Audi on the way through France. Managed to make my Friend place in France and fixed this with metal filler. Ended up being a permeant repair as it fixed the problem.

So long as it's a reputable repairer. Some of them merely blank off the row that has the damage and you end up losing cooling capacity. Old copper/brass radiators were easier to repair as they could be soldered/brazed whereas its a bit harder with modern alloy rads.

as said already. take the radiator out which is easy enough and have it fixed by a specialist. by far the best and cheapest option

Old trick was a self tapper screw, stainless steel, with some adhesive/sealant on it. Mainly as an emergency fix that if successful remained that way until vehicle sold.

or drop an egg in it. another old trick

Don't think I would fancy that in a vehicle fitted with AirCon, especially if you have the Climatronic variety. Think I would prefer the Screw + Sealant.

I'm sure it worked well on the old motors, just as a pair of tights in place of the fan belt did as well, but nowadays you need a flipping degree just to understand whats under the bonnet.:(

Bring back the old engines when all you needed was an adjustable spanner, screwdriver, hammer and a roll of Gaffa Tape. :)

Showing my age now. Loved my Ford Prefect 107E and my Series II Landrover.:thumb

gone are the days of tipping some 'radweld' in the header tank and forgetting about it. so long ago I think it was all in black and white

Thanks guys, new radiator in and fitted. :) Might have to look at some sort of protection in that area as mentioned in a previous post ;)
