Stopcock not stopping

We’ve a 2012 Cali SE - it seems the gas stopcock under the kitchen doesn’t do anything.

We can boil a kettle with the stopcock shut.

Does this just mean it’s faulty or is there something we’re missing.

For now we are turning it off at the gas bottle when driving.

are sure you have turned it off right. Off is across the gas pipe.

Yup, perpendicular to the gas pipe.

We’ve also tried both directions

The plastic knob has probably worn out and isn't actually turning the valve. Does the knob pull off? Might need aralditing on to turn the valve. Other than that I wouldn't worry about it. On is better. You can still isolate the gas at the back. I usually leave my gas constantly on anyway.
