Can anyone suggest a sensible fuse for a switch 12v supply for dash cam? I need it to be one of the fuses in the centre dash fuse block as that is where I have routed the cable and I don't want to reroute it to the side panel. (can't attach photo as it says waiting for moderator....).

On a related note - where is the fuse list for the T6? I have searched the manual and the back for the fuse box cover but nothing. Am I being blind?

Fuselist are a BIG ??????
There is almost no info from VW in the manual

Some info in the downloadsection...

Thanks for the quick reply. First vehicle I have ever owned that doesn't have a list of fuses available. Would be interesting to know how people know what to change in an emergency (when there is no signal to call for help).

Looking at the downloads section all I can see is a really good doc for the T5 Beach - nothing or the T6 which has a different layout as far as I can see. Any suggestions (I have done quite a bot of googling but cannot find anything. Multi-meter is my next port of call but would like to avoid alarm circuits and the like.

That's good to know as something I will probably be looking to do.
Just looking at the various options.
At least we now know which fuse to use.

Me too, already have one in current car and will be getting another to replace the front, existing will be relegated to the rear.

Thank you Kevthegas. That is perfect.

For those looking at buying - there is a brand new model out for Nextbase - 412gw. I think it has only been launched in Halfords but will shortly be appearing in Costco as a kit with a small card (I spoke to their buyer who told me this). When I spoke to Nextbase they told me that it is their new top model and was about 120GBP. Looks pretty good so far (and will look all the better from not having a wire training across the dash).

Thanks. Sounds good.

Also stumbled across this article which in this fast moving area is quite recent.

Also had this one suggested recently for separate camera front and rear thank you @Loz

I have fitted 3 x Nextbase 312 from Halfords, cracking pieces of kit. With the 32 gb card and wiring kit I have paid ÂŁ109/ ÂŁ124. I had to moan a bit and paid ÂŁ109 again for the 3rd kit this week.

All fitted, works perfectly in that 15a fuse - thank you. I never knew about piggy back fuses - always hated scotchblocks so this really feels like progress (even if I am a bit late to the party).

Great stuff. Given me the confidence to do my own when I get it.

How are you planning to route the wires? Next weekends job for me!

XC60 fitting
I have mine running along the top edge of the screen between glass and trim on the passenger side. Fits down the A pillar towards the dash. Down to the floor then along the foot well back to the central console, plugged into the rear passenger cig socket.

I'm expecting the front to be very similar only with the California I'll be wiring in using the ÂŁ15 kit from Maplins.
Hopefully no need to run it back via the footwell and back to the centre.

Hope that is of some use. Unless I've missed the point then by all means ignore at will ;-)

Sorry for the late reply, I could not find any ready made earth points available for the route I chose.

The dash is mounted on a metal frame work which is bolted onto the van, behind the r/side access panel of the dash I drilled a hole and crimped a connector onto this.

Thanks - I couldn't see anything suitable either, but haven't done the job yet as I had the wrong sized piggy back! Mini ones one the way...

Did you have to take any dash parts off, or did you manage to thread it through? I am a bit nervous of trying to pry brand new bits off...

All done today.
Used the 15amp shown above.
Earth point was a problem, eventually used one of the screws holding the fuse treat to the passenger seat, then d tucked the wire under the mats, sneaking it up under the dash.
Wire routed tidily under edges of passenger door trim, then threaded under the dash.
Happy with the result - no dashboard component removal required.

Did mine today, took a look at the wiring diagram in the downloads section and found a suitable permanent live and switched live up in the roof console going to the control unit, no need to run wires down.

Sounds like a good plan, but Beach console is different, though we have night heater controls there, so likely there is the right feeds in there, but didn't want to go fiddling yet - with less than 1000 miles on the clock...
Just seen you've got your new Cali - you are obviously braver than I am :thumb

Why on a switched supply?
Both the dash cams we have will switch on if the van is bumped so they are on permanent supplies. We switch the cameras off when parked but hopefully if bumped they will then get some evidence.

Depends on the model and the size of the memory card... Mine is a simple one which is either on or off based on the suoly, hence switched live and only a few hours recording on the card. The manual recommends unplugging if the lighter socket remains on.

Hi
I've had my wire kit for a few weeks now. I plan on using a fuse tap, but my kit came with a mini and a standard. I'm lead to believe that a micro is needed for these in the centre. Anyone know if there is a mini or standard fuse in the centre (behind the drink holder) that I feed off. I'd like to fit this weekend and don't want to wait any longer for a micro tap from China to arrive ;-)

TIA

Top ones are mini.
Lower ones standard.
Left & right banks are permanent live, centre switched with ignition.
My piggy is in an empty slot as the middle empty ones have a live in clip, on rhs, but nothing on the left.
My hardwired converter died, so now feeds an extra cigarette socket hidden under dash and the original dashcam plug taped in it. This has solved my poor DAB reception! See post elsewhere.

I've used almost the same fuse on my Ocean the first two are in use and the third is free and is fed on ignition. I managed to find an earth using the screw on the lower left of your picture. That was what took the time, getting the spade connector in place. Luckily lovely wife has tiny hands so she was able to nip the connector in place. I would be still there now struggling.

Now loving the clean look of my dash. For the rear I'm planning on relocating the 402 to the rear and getting a Nextbase 412 for the front. For the rear I'm going simple, I'm thinking that since the Ocean has a central 12V socket that I can feed the standard cable towards that. I almost always open the side door to add a bag or similar so a simple matter of popping in the plug each time.

Can supply pic if anyone needs some

I have just wired a Nextbase dashcam using the guidance here. I used the spare slot below the blue fuse in the centre bank. For the earth I used the screw to the middle RHS of the picture. This is supposed to be a self tapping screw fixing the plastic trim to a metal flange. The captive nut was missing but I picked up a spare at Halfords and it worked a treat.

Only problem I had was getting the 'direction' of the fuse correct. I put it in upside down to start with which didn't deliver power with ignition on or off. Inverted it and all is now good. Very easy to hide the cable vehind the edge of the trim and dashcam now comes on automatically with the ignition and stops 2 mins after ignition is turned off.

I got the Nextbase 512WG. Seems very easy to use and high quality video.
