tailgate lock - urgent help before I call out AA

Anyone on the forum who can help with this please
I was trying out the Reimo Fritz tailgate awning and hooked the loop as instructed into the lock of the tailgate when it is wide open.
completed the practise run of putting it up and then find I cannot remove the metal ring from the tailgate lock. I then pushed it to see if it would release and it is now firmly stuck in locked position.
the fob is not unlocking it and I cant see any other way of doing so
thus the tailgate has an awning hanging on it at the moment

Doh!!!
all sorted.....looked the youtube clip on 'airsafe'
silly me - just had to try the handle and it dropped out.
