I had some new sectional garage doors to replace the retractable ones so now I can garage the new Cali. The width wasn’t an issue but the height was and now the internal rails are higher and the clearance at the front with the door coming down vertically rather than angling down clears the Cali easily. Very happy :happy

Well done - ours just fits too - the first time we tried we were really nervous - ours only clears the top of the doorway by about 2 cm, and the door mirrors both need turning in (up) and they clear the sides by about 1 cm each side, so it's "easy does it" when we put it in the garage. Much better than being outside so worth the effort and care in putting it away. Added benefit is that with the van no longer on the drive people cannot tell when we are away.

I'm lucky to have higher ceiling in the garage, so don't expect any issues. I currently keep there 4x4 with roof rack and awning and have around 12cm left above it. Lenght not an issue either, longer car parked there before.

It's a shame, so many garages in UK are just storage space, because they are too narrow.

My other half was at work when I first attempted to get it in the garage so I would move a few inches at a time then get out and look. There’s a weather strip on the floor so was nervous about the Cali lifting and then hitting the door but all good. Can now reverse In confidently without worrying.

This gives me pause for thought. Our existing up and over door is very heavy, and the door opener struggles to open it. So I was considering changing the opener at least. The door opening is about 50mm too low, so your solution might work for us!

I don’t think that our previous door opening was much different to be honest. We gained space inside because the rails are now higher but also I can get the new door down vertically with the Cali right to the front of the garage without having to reverse right back to the rear units because it’s not coming down at an angle where the previous door would have definitely caught the top front of the Cali.

If it fits, it fits. Even if you have 1cm of room left, it fits.
Nice job, and much better to be able to store your van inside.
Mine's sleeping outside for over 14 years now. I don't like it, but that's the way it is.

Except, don’t tell your insurance company! My car insurer charges MORE for keeping it in a garage than parking on the drive! They reckon more owners prang their cars in garages.

I’ll have to check my policy as I can’t actually remember if I’ve put down driveway or garage. :thumb

I heard it many times, but when I declared one of my cars kept in the garage, policy went down by £80-90 per annum. I think it was Audi S8/A8. But now, I declare all my cars kept on the driveway and they stay in the garage on rotation basis. Insurance was ok with it. Before that, one of the policies required keeping car in the garage between 22.00 and 6.00 if it's declared as garaged and it wasn't always doable, hence the change.

I guess it’s the balance of risk of theft on one hand and pranging your own car on the other. So a higher crime rate area may well equal lower premium to garage a car.

I had just managed to clear the garage of junk so I’d get one of our cars in, and at renewal I thought we’d get a lower premium. Our policy would have gone up £30 (2 years ago), so I swiftly retracted this idea, and declared that we park on our drive. However, times change, and junk (aka camping gear, essential tools and of course spare timber) has increased, so it’s not an option for us right now.

I'm definitely not in high crime area, in fact it's rather low crime here. I think, it depends on the insurer and car model. Admiral favoured cars kept in the garage, specialist broker for my imported 4x4 too. Now I left Admiral after 12 years, so use random companies, but I think California will be with them. I didn't check insurance cost of driveway vs garage, because 4x4 lives inside.
