For other family issues, mainly my wayward, and autistic, son coming home for 18 months, my life for the last 2 years, has been on a fractious hold. He returned to the USA but then Mum began a terminal decline.

For the last 18 months Jo, my sister, and me, our lives have been totally dominated by having to go 300 miles north every month, and often in between,

Today we hitched up and with our dogs went where we wanted to go.

The stress is falling off me in spades.

Alfie, take us away.

Last week he was part of a funeral cortege, a reminder to all how Mum loved travelling in him. Tonight he is back to doing what a Cali does best. In Kent, just chilling with jo, 6 days of doing nothing but remembering Mum, walking dogs and chilling.

Peace!!!

Granny Jen enjoy your well deserved break.
I was just wondering what your best option is on your 4motion Cali and whether you would spec anything else if you had your time again?:thanks

I would never have anything but 4mo.

Just me. My past. In mountains, on snow, deep in sh*t and knowing 4mo with the right tyres will always allow me to do what I want to do. It is totally useless without the right tyres and today Alfie is wearing the latest fashion in Michelin cross climate.

I bought Alfie as I bought his predecessor, Albert. Off the shelf, as it came, as long as 4mo DSG. If I was to reorder again I would want the electric sliding door as I had on Albert but not on Alfie, the bigger fuel tank . bin the dynaudio, for me a total waste of time, and either stick with the alcantara or specify the cheapest, crappiest seat coverage possible and have an after market leather trim fitted.

However, all that aside, I would have a Cali. The most competent vehicle around, and yes, I did fall in love with the Marco Polo then fell out of love as I dismissed the bling and started to evaluate it's camper credentials alongside the Cali.

Sorry to read about your Mum GJ.

Enjoy your chill time with your sister and dogs. Xx

Sounds like it’s been a tough couple of years. Here’s hoping that 2019 brings you lots of opportunities to get away in Alfie and create happier memories. Enjoy your trip GJ

Enjoy the peace, the memories, the countryside and the accommodation. Our first trips of 2019 are delayed until after the tax return filing deadline, but already three are planned for February.

Many condolences GJ. Nothing like getting away in your home from home as an antidote to difficult times. Recuperate well and have a great 2019.

Thank you xx

Jo, my Sister, and I had a brilliant week in Canterbury. Feel quite restored despite a close encounter with the braindead kind last night. Police this morning were very kind and considerate so that cheered me up.

Home now and ready to go again :D

Condolences Granny Jen: never easy when you lose a parent. Life does have its compensations though, i.e. the California, especially when it carries good memories.

Yes, hard to lose a parent but when my mum went, my sister and I agreed that although we wished we could have her back as she was before she became ill, we were happy that she was no longer living a life she could not enjoy. It sounds rather as if it's the same for you and your sister, so that you can celebrate the life she had while missing her anyway, but living your lives as she would wish you to.
xx

Yes, just the same, remembering the Mum we all knew, not that bent, crippled shadow creased in pain for the last few months. Great to get away, go where we wanted to go, raise a glass every night to the old girl remembering the good times and not have to make our way Northwards to see something so distressing.

On a more prosaic note, is that an Eriba behind your Cali? Don't they look good together!
