The Hymer Club

Keep us posted on the new van.
It’s one I would consider, if we didn’t need a 4 berth. Possibly an upgrade later down the line for us
I really liked the seat position in the Grand Canyon.
But with what i want it’s pushing £100k

Caligirl and I went out in January after much deliberation over Christmas to look at a Black 3ltre Grand Canyon . Only got to the first dealer and after an hour traded the Cali and bought this . Hymer BMC I 580 with lots of extras . We went a bit mad ! It’s LHD British registered from new which has turned out to be a big plus . We live on South Coast 20 mins from Cherbourg ferry.

Off to see Eric Clapton tonight at the Nimes Roman Amphitheatre and it’s sunny . I’m still mourning the loss of my Cali 5.1 4 motion which I’d had from new in 2015 but new van is great and a completely different beast . We made the change really to head to Spain and Portugal for 90 days in the winter .

Yeah they’re expensive. I wasn’t a fan of the flip down sink or rear cupboards across the doors.
However would’ve liked the rear wheel drive aspect of the GC.

From what you’ve said, I think you would be better with a commercial Land Rover discovery. You can order one without rear seats and it’s classed as a commercial vehicle, then get something bespoke built in the back to suit.

Just worked out I now have 11 machines in 9 sites in UK. And only 4 sites / machines in Europe.
Another guy looks after those.
So my extensive EU travel is way down.
Glad, as was bored of being in airports.
But started to up the mileage in California.
So what to do.
Sell it. Use it. Just don’t know.
But the 4 hour and 30 minute drive doing 258 miles was great. Managed to cruise really fast.
No traffic as it was all coming north.

The two foot lengths of 4x4 inch memory foam under my right leg and backside worked a treat.
No backache. Felt fresh as a daisy whilst setting up.
So finally cracked the correct amount of foam for my backside and side thigh bolster.
Can get an upholster to get them just so now.
I guess cheapest car is the one you’re in now ?

Also listen to many people who wished they had kept their Cali. As it’s a proper multi tool.

But to add, having the ability to stand up as soon as you arrive on site is a bonus.
The Sven really ticks all my boxes too.

Very nice, north or south dealer ?

There is, he doesn’t know how much to advertise it for so I’m thinking he’s fishing for a price to advertise it for.

All WJC are LHD. So no good for me.
Yet.
Until the new Merc RHD arrives.
Need to start playing the lottery

Well I bit the bullet and went Big after the Cali, although the Exclusive was fantastic in the standing department and the toilet room, the sleeping arrangement for 4 in any van under 6M is always an issue.

We wanted separate beds for the Girls and after looking at many Vans we decided on Bunks..but this limits Panel Vans down to Wildax and Autosleepers, both very well made but the bunks are too narrow and then the storage space is virtually nothing.

Finally we settled on a Hymer B524SL..and oh my, the space and quality are fantastic. 3.0 Fiat engine with 160bhp but feels much much more, really is a great unit. Bunks at the back over 2M long by 90cm wide, Massive Double for us up front which doesn't use any of the L Shaped lounge space...and Storage...well you can actually walk through the garage are from one side of the van to the other.

I've still got my Exclusive so it may come out to play once in a while but whilst 4 of us are camping I can't see past the Hymer TBH.Screen Shot 2024-06-20 at 15.17.50.png

Great reg plate !
Unless you go lithium and solar ;)

Likewise selling my beloved Cali (see classifieds), and moving up to a Hymer Grand Canyon S Crossover (4x4), something that I contemplated for years and finally decided to bite the bullet and put a deposit down with Andy at Southdowns Motorhomes back in February.

Hopefully i'm in the final 4 week countdown to the van arriving, after which it's swiftly being taken down to the Project Yonder team in Hastings to get some Dutch Van Parts bits fitted; side steps, rear ladder, storage box.

Cannot wait for the van to arrive, feels a bit like a dream, so many plans and adventures to be had!

Rear ladder, storage box for wetsuit gear and roof rails is on list of bits to add, going into NY.
Post some pics of the van when you collect :thumb
