Tow bar

I have a T6 Cali beach without tow bar prep. Does anyone know how much a detachable tow bar and electrics might cost and if so would you recommend an installer ?

What ever you do make sure you get the right electrics fitted.

These must be integrated with the van's computer, and this has to be set so it knows a tow bar is fitted. Then the reverse sensors will be switched off when you plug in the trailer. There is nothing more annoying than the reverse sensors going off when you select reverse, however far you are from an obstruction and if you are maneuvering the trailer.

Westfalia is the make that is fitted as standard by VW so if you are anywhere near Bristol, they will do it for you and recode the computer.


BTW. I said in a previous post on this subject (back in the summer 2016) that the micro switch in the 7 pin socket switched off the reversing lights on the van. This is wrong, it switches off the rear fog light on the van.

I apologise for that error and hope I didn't mislead to many folk.

I did want to apologise for that last year, but couldn't find the thread again.
