Hello,

I am trying to access the internal fuses, but cannot remove the lower console cup holder.

The vw user manual says simply pull the plastic panel forward, but this is not working for me.

Does anyone have any hints and tips please?

Thanks

The lower console is the one that fits a 1,5 L bottle.
There is two tabs to pinch, located around 3/4 from the bottom. This releases the console/bottle holder, and you just lift it out.

Many thanks Emil,

it was getting late and dark so I did not explore too much.

Nothing about any pinch clips in the user manual - but then much of what is in the manual doesn't seem to apply.

I'll try again in the morning.

Thanks

If you are looking for the 30A windscreen fuses, you are in the wrong place.
As I mentioned they and the relay are in the fuse box next to the starter battery under the bonnet.

Many thanks Loz. You have really helped with this.

I found the fuses (which are ok), but cannot locate the relay. Does anyone know the location please?

I could not find anything for the heated windscreen in vcds.

Thanks

You have to remove the battery and remove the cover to access the relays.
Can you try listening for it whilst a helper operates the button for you?

Yes this is my plan tomorrow.
Many thanks Loz. Your help is very much appreciated.

I have tried to listen for the relay kicking in with the engine running this is quite difficult, so have used an engine stethoscope….I cannot hear the relay click when the on button is pressed.

Looking at the wiring diagram again, it shows a 3rd fuse connecting to the relay.

This 3rd fuse is labelled SA6 - Fuse 6 in fuse holder A. There is no mention of the rating, but it is delivered through a chunky cable so will be a high rating.

Any idea where fuse holder A is located please?

Ohh. I have also waited for a very cold morning (today and 0.5degC) to test whether the heated screen only comes on when a certain low temperature is measured. This test failed too.

Many thanks

If you check in the VIP Downloads you'll find a Fuse layout document that shows the position of the various fuseboxes.

Update....I have booked it in to VW Birmingham Van Centre for next week.

Having to remove the main battery to access the main power fuses and relays is a step too far when the van is under warranty.

I have learnt quite a lot from this exchange. Many thanks to Loz and Welshgas.

My VCDS is also reporting a couple of other system errors, so these have been added to the service list for next week.

I'll update once checked and fixed (hopefully).

Thanks
