My theory is that 'Summer' tyres are designed to have minimal rolling resistance which to me translates as low straight ahead grip. Also looking at the tread there is little actual contact with the road surface.
From that I deduce that on front wheel drive only Cali's there is a normal tendency to spin the tyre causing rapid wear.
All season & winter tyres have more side to side tread giving better surface grip and less of a tendency to spin giving a longer life/mileage span.. Commercial tyres also fit this category.
