Has anybody had any issues with the drive cog mechanism on their upper glovebox. Recently the mechanism for opening the upper glovebox on our 2016 T6 California Ocean broke. I've attached a picture of the broken part and another of the opposite cog which is still fitted and in good working order. I am trying locate a replacement cog if anybody has had the same trouble? I am still trying to locate the cog which appears to have separated from bracket shown in the first picture.

Click on link below, select year and then Body. Scroll down to Dashboard fittings Part 15.

Looks like only the complete Glove Box is available.

Perhaps use a couple of technical Lego cogs

Thanks for the feedback.

I've actually bought a new glovebox just purely to salvage the parts. A bit expensive for a part that is likely to be less than a fiver. However if I can find a part that fits the job I could sell on the glovebox in its entirety.

I'll check into the Lego parts, thanks for the pointer, one place I haven't looked.

The same happened to me on a 65 plate Ocean.. did you replace the whole glove box ?

Unfortunately ended up buying a new one and removed the gear drive. However when I stripped it down I also found the hinge pin to be missing. Ended up buying 3mm dowel pins from amazon. All good now but a bit costly.

I thought I'd have to do the same but managed to replace the hinge pin and glove box lid works ok with same cog arrangement on opposite side still intact

These devices are generically called “Rotary Dampers” the colour of the cogs normally signify the level of dampening and sometimes the direction of damping. They are there normally to purely to control the speed of the drop in glovebox or cubby flaps. It might be they are also part of the mech on the cali. If you have an old one then use the dimensions to find an alternative on the web. There are probably markings on the device to tell you the damping rate as well.
