Just got back from another week in Snowdonia. Driving rain, snow, sleet and 80mph gusts of wind that blew the silver screen off. But the views were still stunning. The picture below is of Cnicht just above Croesor in Gwynedd and the top ¼ of it is covered in snow. I was going to put it in the "brew with a view" thread but I couldn't get a view of it from the car park. I am parked at the cross roads and brewing up here would be frowned on.

Pork chops for dinner?

We met some friendly carabinieri who assured us they were boar and wolf fodder. Whether they breed naturally to be eaten or are bred to be eaten we were unable to glean, but, it seems, wolf protection duties are an important part of carabinieri duties in the national park. Apparently we were very close to a "family" of about 20 wolves and in the next sector there was a similarly large "family". I assumed he meant pack.

[edit - they don't look much like boar, just piggies bred for wolf fodder]

T6 L2H3 150 HP TSI. 12000 km since april 2017. Average fuelconsumption 11L/100km fully loaded (with motorcycle)

Nice rig. I am also very interested in details about what it takes to carry a motorbike like that …

I ordered this rack from the Reimo catalogue.

You need the universal base construction 1400 mm X 800 mm (there is also a 600 mm version):

and the base plates for the VW Transporter (T5 is the same as T6):

Adapter T5 T6.jpg

A tow bar is not necessarry but when ordering the rack you have to specify if you have one.
The rack can take 250 kg and has a TÜV approval. My BMW's weight is 220 kg.
The aluminium plates on top are made by a local workshop but you can order them also in Germany:

I ordered my T6 with fortified rear suspension as an option from factory
but this can help also a bit:

When the rack is not on the van you can hardly see the adapterplates.

Then a short drive to walk up Mam Tor. Diesel heater - priceless!! First weekend away this year.

Thanks, Dirk. I was not aware this was a possibility. My bike is 280 kg as I remember, but could be interesting if I got one of the lighter GS models.
Happy driving

New wheels? 20"? Really nice. I still have the bland standard 17" alloys, can't decide if I should go up to larger wheels and lowering or higher with fatter tires for offroad.

Depends how adventurous in your Travels you want to be? 20" and Lowering will certainly be a limiting factor.
