Hi all!

I've been told that you can get your 6.1 Cali remapped by VW (or via an approved VW center) without loosing warranty. From 150 up to 240ps and it's done somewhere in Almere (The Netherlands) and in Germany, that's about all I know..

Anyone has any info? I'm aware that just about any chiptuner wil happilly remap a turbodiesel engine, but i don't want to loose VW warranty (and its ilegal to drive around, you have the (very small) risk of loosing insurance and the resell value drops)

Thanks!

Btw i'm from Belgium

Sry, its in Amersfoort! Not Almere

I would be very surprised if VW would do it and if you do a remap I would expect the warranty to be jeopardised.

I don't think this would be possible in the UK anyway as it would change the vehicle Type approval and registration.

I’ve had ours done in the UK. From 140 to 175.. this gives lots of extra torque for easy uphill driving. Also an improvement in MPG on a run. Ours was out of warranty when I had it done. I imagine it is quite possible to take a 150 to 240 but definitely would not recommend it at all..It would be pushing it to the absolute limits.

20 or max 25% increase but 60% would be beyond anything that I'd give second thoughts to..
A 204 yes or a 180 at a stretch.

Thanks for the replys! Although I think i haven't made my question clear.. i'm not asking for opinions on chiptuning/remapping:

Does anyone know of that you can remap your vehicle approved by VW? Thx!

I am still puzzled why VW goes to all the trouble of fitting a complicated twin turbo set up together with many other modifications when just fitting a chip or remap turns a 150 PS engine into a 240.
Obviously we all know they are clueless concerning the set up of their vans suspension to enable overtaking on roundabouts, but engines?

that's an easy one. emissions, insurance, price markup.

Just because you don't ask for an opinion doesn't mean it's forbidden to do so.

Probably best to ask VW if you just want a straight ”yes” or “no”.
dealer

Aaaaw, you can give your opinion all you want for all i care, don't worry.
But it's not because i only get opinions or whatnot, that i cant refrase my question so that i might get an answer ;-)

btw for all those suggesting "dealer" don't know how it is in the UK, but here most salesmen etc aren't that well informed. Hel, I had to explain to one guy what the waterheater was for.. "He only knew that it wasn't for taking showers or doing the washing up"

Hi MRR

i suspect they answer to your question is No.

the 150 engine is the same as the 102 etc, however the 199 / 204 engine is a totally different configuration.
most remaps work on increasing turbo boost / activity.
boosting a single turbo to run at 240 ps would severely stress the turbo and other component in the engine.
the boost pressure and additional temperatures generated would probably cause premature failure of components.
I doubt VW would honour a warranty of a severely tuned engine, however if you were looking to tune a 102 ps to 150 ps it could be argued that the remap was merely a change to the engine, allowing it to work within VWs own parameters, parameters that VW have themselves decided is the correct parameters for a range of engines.
The same could not be said for a 150 power unit increased, particularly to a massive 240 ps.
it is well recognise, that if you tune a standard power unit, whilst in Warranty you risk voiding that warranty, the above scenario with a retune of a lower power engine to a higher “ factory spec” could be argued with mild success, however 150 to 240 ps, I would suspect no success of a warranty claim relating to the engine snd drive train.

manufacturers set limits for their engines to give them (the manufacture) the best balance between power / emissions/ warranty claims.
setting aside the marketing of different power out puts for an identical engine (as discussed above) VW do not market / produce / sell a single turbo Transporter engine above 150 ps !
they employ a twin turbo system to achieve the greater performance whilst maintaining lower stresses on the power unit acvied by the twin turbo set up of the 199/ 201 / 204 or what ever tune they decide fits the emissions that month.
if you want monster performance from a 150 power unit, it can be done, but I would confidently suggest VW would be nowhere to be seen in a warranty Claim situation.

I know it’s not the answer you wanted to hear , but it is the best advice you will receive, for free, anywhere.

Now you've opened up another can of worms.

How can I route the sink water line via the 'water heater' to get hot water in the sink? ;)
Boil a kettle old Skool styleee :Iamsorry

Edit:
not a 12v turbo boil kettle !

Found this doing a quick google search, they say they guarantee your engine !

the tune is a 205ps ! (Not 240)
Could this be the source of a miscommunication / mis interpretation of the original information from where your question was devised from ?
