Picking up our new Beach early next week and planning her maiden voyage to the Motorhome Show at the NEC next Friday/Saturday.

Looking forward to picking up some "essentials" at the NEC as well as hopefully deciding on the awning v tent conundrum!?

Another decision I am still pondering is the bed set-up for the 3-seater bench......I am swaying towards the VW comfort mattress plus some sort of topper.....but any advice would be welcome.

Brilliant... exciting stuff!
I'm going to buy a Beach next year(3bench). Let me know if you can sit upright with the bed in place and roof down please?!
I'll be buying an awning..

I slept on my 3 seat beach without a topper because I couldn't raise the roof (overhead trees) I definitely wouldn't do it again. Very uncomfortable.

I haven't tried the Vw topper but I do know after recently transporting a double mattress that the bed down is similar size. However the specific made for the beach are made to pack flatter to save valuable space and to fit perfectly.

For now I'm being a cheap skate with a regular bed topper but when funds allow I'm certainly looking at something made for the beach.

Purchased a 3 inch kingsize topper off of eBay for £45. Fits perfectly once corners are cut out (use rear board mattress as template).
Head height is compromised but many things about the Cali is a compromise I guess.
Personally I would rather be comfortable when laying down. You do need a topper of some sort as the bed is very uncomfortable in its original state.

The VW comfort mattress is an accessory I wouldn't want to be without
So quick and easy to pull out and put back
Once out I lay a fleece blanket on top so the sleeping bag doesn't slide around :)

Thanks for your advice Alan

We are swaying towards the VW comfort mattress but can you confirm (as per Kano's previous post) whether you can sit upright in the bed with the roof down?

Vw comfort mattress was way too hard for us.

I have to agree, the Comfort mattress is not very comfortable and because it is part of the parcel shelf cushion you are stuck with it.

I can't recall having a problem sitting up I'll come back to you tomorrow then I'm only 5.7ft!

Hi Crangster... If you read the post, 7 seater questions, I asked the same question. A member called zeratul gave a helpful answer re the height of the bed to roof.
Be interested to your thoughts..

Have read Zeratul's posts....very helpful. I am also 182cm so shouldn't be a problem by the sounds of it.

Will let you know what we decide and how we sleep!

Hi, can anyone that has ordered the VW comfort mattress from new confirm if they completely replace the pad on the multiflex board with the comfort mattress or does the thin multiflex pad remain underneath the comfort mattress? I'm just trying to work out what is included and delivered...I feel like the comfort mattress tips down at the head end without the multiflex pad being there and wondered if it was meant to be there too (I don't have one with my new Beach but do have the comfort mattress. In the last Beach we had the multiflex but not the comfort mattress...hope that all makes sense!
Thanks in advance for any information!

No Multiflex pad if you order the Comfort Mattress.
The Comfort mattress has 3 sections . The sections that unfold and cover the seat are about 5cm thick and the section over the Multiflex board about 9cms thick so producing a level bed from front to rear.

Thanks for the response WG, that makes sense.
Now I just need to work out exactly how to get the comfort mattress to be flat and comfortable! I think I may have some of the panels in the wrong place?
Does anyone have a picture of their Comfort mattress in situ?
Thanks again.

The Multiflex board is in the lowest position. The thickest section, which is also shaped fits on this.

Ah, I've just realised you have the 2 seat bench... I forgot to mention I have the 3 seat!
Does anyone have a 3 seat and comfort mattress...
There are about 7 segments to the comfort mattress I have...! :talktothehand

It is hard to get it right. Most important tip is to get it the right way up. One side is harder than the other. The hard side is the bottom and is shapd to fit the contours of the seat. Softer side on top. Not much difference between the two but you can feel it once you know.

As for the right configuration of pieces that's not so easy as the mattress is adaptable for three different bed lengths, short, medium (standard if you're using just the multiplex and the 3 seat bench) and long (if also using 6th and 7th seats).

In the standard set up the two smaller sections go on the mutliflex (sort of folded in on each other) and the three larger sections over the seats.

I can't get to the van to take pics right now but if you search on YouTube for 'California Chris' he's got a video on Beach bed options which I found really useful.

Here’s a photo of mine. Just remember there’s a soft-side, and a hard-side to the comfort mattress.

Steve’s info above is spot on ^

Love the storage boxes! Where are they from and what are their dimensions? They look like they were made for the van!

Thanks, I ordered them from Cromwell.co.uk - 4x for the 600x400 boxes and 2x of the 400x300. You can fit an extra 2x of the 400x300 boxes in behind the ones you can see. However, my camping toilet lives in that space.
