VW e-Transporter & e-California

No Leisure Batteries and there is a surprising amount of space underneath between floorpan and undershield especially if a Hybrid design was developed.
It would have to be a root and branch redesign. The battery for a Tesla last time I looked was the size of the entire floor pan and about 6 inches tall. I am hopeful for the future but realistic.

This could be complete cobblers, but the dimensions from here are:

Length : 194.6 in | 4943 mm.
Width : 77.8 in | 1976 mm.
Height : 77.3 in | 1963 mm.
Wheelbase : 129.9 in | 3299 mm.

So maybe an inch or so less than the T6 Cali, although this concept car has no pop top.

“Still” is the key word, and/or the trendline.

There are also no coal plants or huge diesel ships belching out particulates or NO in our towns & cities next to pavements & outside schools, you know, where the people are?

Don't read the Daily Mail just the Telegraph. Also not long back from Germany so the 42% stands.regarding coal use.As for pollution at sea or air. Just as bad as pollution is still pollution no matter where and fuel for ships is no where near as clean as the diesel we use.
 
I'm out in California at Monterey home of the Pebble Beach Concours d' Elegance and checking out the ID Buzz which is confirmed for production. This is of course the concept car that I saw at Feneva earlier in the year but it's great news that VW will now make us all an EV that means we can keep our passion for the California in the future...

The I.D. Buzz concept sports 369 hp from electric motors on each axle that also provide all wheel drive and the 111 kWh battery pack in the floor of the MEB chassis provide nearly 300 miles of estimated range. Using a VW fast-charge system, the it can recharge about 80 percent of its energy capacity in 30 minutes at 150 kW.

Read something on BBC news about the E. Kombi being introduced but no plans for a camper.

Germany still relies heavily on coal and brown coal. Read the link as they keep changing the decision making. Typical of Germany as industry has greater influence than appreciated. Don't read wiki but research or visit the area yourself. I come from a mining background family

Lignite or brown coal as it it known has low levels of sulphur (less than 1 percent) and ash (approximately 4 percent), but it has high levels of volatile matter ( minimum of 32 percent and higher by weight) and produces high levels of air pollution emissions.

Not being argumentative but realistic as I too want cleaner air but never a closed mind to the influence and integrity or lack of where the power brokers are concerned.
 
I like it and more investment in electric vehicles we may get a camper version. Remember Clarke's third law "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
 
I thought that there had been a news item recently that the Germans were worried about '"pollution" and that Frankfurt was about twice the level of what it should be? Did any one else see that Or have I got it wrong?

What, with one or two exceptions, seems not to have been addressed is how that little orange cable with it's big blue plugs at each end going to pump enough electricity through for camping purposes and to charge the driving battery? In Italy the norm is 2 amps, in Spain it is 6 amps and in France much better at 10. At the moment we get our day to day needs plus the leisure batteries and the engine battery. When you look at the electricity set up on some campsites they look as if it is better not to be too close to them carrying a bucket of water so how they would cope with refuelling a car I am not sure,
 
I will be the first to order one when they announce they are making a camper version of this vehicle. I might even get one to have converted if they don't.

If anyone have read or heard anything about a camper/conversion of the ID Buzz then pleease put a link in this thread, as I am overly interested!
 
News today that France will not allowing carmanufactures to sell diesel and petrol powerd cars from 2040 on.
So maybe a E-Cali could be up then...

Is it not just 100% diesel or petrol?
In other words, a tiny amount of battery power and you can sell it.

Nope , France is planning to stop all deals and contracts with the oilcompanys who now provide oil for fuel to France raffinerys...
 
So France will follow Madam Sturgeons Scotland and grind to a halt unless some genius re invents the wheel.

Why can politicians not be honest. You read headlines and when you check in depth the dishonesty and hype is so blatant as to make sick.
The reality is we have to recognise fuel poverty is around the corner if we go down the path of renewables. As things stand at present with the UK alone having more than 36 million vehicles on the road, we have some task ahead.

My italics - 'plans' could mean anything. If it was UK it would mean the government wanted to know how the idea would be recieved before doing anything about it. I don't know how France operates but politicians are pretty much the same everywhere.....

Reading the Belgian newspaper but seems by the links given above the news is spread all arround .
As you say "plans" could mean anything and by 2040 many of us will not loose any sleep over it , just the fact that governements are taking these decisions for me raises some question marks...
